The Affordable Care Act runs more than 2,600 pages and now hundreds of thousands of regulations. No one knows every single provision that is in the law, which Congress did not even bother to read before passing it. Among its most controversial provisions is the mandate forcing Americans to purchase health insurance or face fines from the IRS. Those fines can even take the form of wage garnishment. Americans who fail to comply and pay the fine can end up in jail.
There is, though, a provision buried in Obamacare that provides a way out of having to comply with the individual mandate. Pages 107 and 128 of Obamacare stipulate that members of healthcare sharing ministries are exempt from the individual mandate.
Healthcare sharing ministries are non-profit entities created to allow Christians to pay into a fund and then tap that fund when they need to pay medical expenses. So theres one catch you have to be meet the healthcare sharing groups membership requirements to join, and as ministries they maintain that you must be a Christian regularly attending church before you can become a member.
Healthcare sharing ministries can approve and decline claims, and rates can increase or decrease over the life of a policy. Some do not require physical exams before joining and do not turn down people with pre-existing conditions.

I think this might be the beginning of a trend where Christians withdraw from our secular anti-christian society.
BINGO....which is why cash only concierge medicine will be a HUUUUUUGE industry - as will these religious exchanges, etc.
I think I am seeing the future of health care here.
Awesome thread.
Bookmarked.
Nah, 34 bucks a month is TOO low. Something is amiss. That’s fairy dust obamacare sounding.....no way a family is really covered for 400 a year....I mean, someone has to pay for the actual doctors and drugs and so on.....
hehehehe!
Yep, someone pointed out that the law doesn’t forbid garnishing wages to get the special tax ($90 or 1% the first year) but if very many people don’t comply that would be impractical.
He has the DOJ, IRS and Senate under his thumb. The House is full of rinos ... who is going to challenge any executive order, basically a fiat, he signs. Nobody has thus far.
The plan I applied for requires me to pay $10,000 and then the rest of the bills are shared by the other members in the co-op. I asked and they have never failed to pay the shared portion. They have been in existence since 1993 and have paid out $750 million.
My thinking is if something really bad happens and they can't pay all of it in Oct of that year I'll sign up with Blue Cross and they can pay it with their obamacare money.
A cash doc is a great idea. It won't work as a hospital. Like I said, it's like a ride on a space shuttle.
People keep thinking that the uber rich will have their own healthcare, and they are right but it doesn't go as far as everyone thinks.
I'm saying the rich better worry when hospitals start going out of business. That means when they're galavanting' all over the place they'd better make sure that they have their heart attack near a functional, high-quality hospital. It won't matter if they're driving a lambourghini if their stroke comes on miles from a rich man's hospital.
The Mennonites and Amish have a great system. They don’t pay insurance...but they all take a collection or hold a sale when a need arises. Meanwhile, the doctors, hospitals, etc, love it, because they get paid quickly and there’s little to no paperwork. WIN WIN WIN...oh, all except Sebelius and the bureaucrats at Obama Care. They lose.
Sure. I would be interested in knowing the ins and outs of it. Probably others as well.
I'm surprised they haven't. I bet they will.
Another thing I came across in Central America is hospital memberships. An individual pays for a membership and all their medical needs are cared for by that hospital. I believe the Roman Catholic Church has a lot of hospitals.
Oh, there will be concierge clinics for surgery - doggoned right. They won’t be the “space shuttle” monster buidlings and so on you are talking about....but there will absolutely be, and in fact there already are - concierge type systems for any and everything you need. They will cater to cash customers and also to some catastrophic simple plans, and they’ll probably take the Amish type and the Christian Care type groups as well.
I put it here for easy reference:
What the Obama-care law text REALLY says on IRS enforcement of the personal Mandate fine/tax
Not sure if those would work as well...the Knights of Columbus idea you had. One of the reasons these Christian share groups work well is that these groups do live legitimately squeaky clean lives and they are, compared to the average person, squeaky clean honest. These are not churches who would accept the Nancy Pelosi’s of the world as members...if you get my drift.
This risk averse component is a key part of why/how these groups make it work.
We’ve had medi-share for a year now.
Not what I said. If a pastor insists on a sum of money for verifying your church attendance it's time to find a new church.
You also assumed this would be a problem for me.
I don't even know if you're a Christian.
I hope you get accepted and I am sure you will. I am thinking about this myself.
“Who covers your health insurance then.”

I have PhilHealth which cost next to nothing...about $50 per year for me and my family.
Medical cost here are very low, but from my experience they have been excellent. My young son was in the hospital for three days with a mild infection, but stuck with an IV. He had private room with TV and A/C. The bill was about $100.
