Hollywood and the New Racism

If you believe press reports, Twelve Years a Slave is undeniably one of the greatest -- perhaps the greatest -- film of 2013. Not due to any skill in filmmaking, which remains to be seen, or audience response -- the film was only released last weekend. But solely because Slave (directed by Steve McQueen, not the dead one with the motorcycle, I'm pretty sure), is this year's PC film, one made for the single purpose of preaching a very contemporary and meticulously constructed racial message.

In this it joins a number of other recent pictures such as The Help and The Butler, and even, in a twisted way, Django. These films are all examples of a generally unrecognized subgenre of the propaganda film. They are racial films designed to raise an admonishing finger toward the white audience regarding its "legacy" as slaveholders while bolstering the blacks in their conviction of victimhood...

...These films are generally of the "historical" genre, set in either the slavery period or the segregation era that followed. The storylines are cursory, and manipulated for political impact throughout. Characterization is on a cartoon level, with whites either evil racists or weak, vacillating types who simply go along. Blacks are uniformly noble and long-suffering. Abolitionists, where they appear, as in Amistad, are creepy religious types with their own agenda. Racial relations are the sole topic of interest, overcoming even the events of the Civil War, and leaving the impression that race, and race alone, is the crucial hinge of American history, one that swings only one way.

Why are these films made? To maintain the current racial status quo in all its hypocrisy, misery, and dishonesty. Such films are produced for the sole purpose of shaming whites and encouraging blacks to wallow in self-pity -- and this is exactly what we find in the responses to the first promotional campaign for Twelve Years a Slave:

""Although I'm quite sure this movie will be very good, I cannot watch it. As Black man these movies stirs a [sic] anger in me that I rather not experience... I look at White people differently I know that is wrong, I should not do it but I cannot help myself. After going to the SLAVERY IN NEW YORK exhibit and having to be comforted like a child because I broke down in tears... (This poster repeated his comment twice while claiming censorship.)""

Right; they are the propaganda of the Grievance Industry. My question is, who pays to see them? Any white person who does is a self-loathing fool being parted with his money.

They are made because they are En Vogue. Just like any commercial you see has to have a black husband/boyfriend/date when there is a white woman in it.

Just like any commercial you see with multiple kids in it has to have one Asian, one black, one brown and one white. Just like most any TV comedy or drama has to have someone Gay in it.

Frankly, I don’t even consider these kinds of push pieces anymore. I like Modern Family, but when the two homos are on, I speed past it because it isn’t the truth - they gloss over the sick stuff they’d really be doing.

No Jamie Fox anything, no Lincoln, no 12 Years As a Slave, no Amistad, no Roots, no George Lopez, no Django.

The industry in Hollywood has taken upon itself to portray 12-15% of the population as THE overarching and driving force of all our daily lives and it is just not so. The Wizard of Oz was more believable.

Good question. They can’t have a very large audience, probably being used mainly to reinforce the racial “programming” of the left’s thought leaders in various positions of influence. They just don’t do that much for “the unwashed masses.” Does anybody know their box office numbers?

There is also a quota for Blacks in TV ads now.

About every third frame has a Black character in it.

Ads showing mixed marriages or relationships are now a constant theme, portrayed falsely at many multiples of the real life number.

During NFL game ads Black fathers cradling babies or engaged with their children are now a constant theme, in spite of the fact that 75% of Black families have no father.

Financial ads almost always portray Black traders or Black senior executives when the real number is less than 5%.

I watch “Jeopardy” every night.

Monday they had a Black woman who was so unqualified I had to hit the Mute button every time she rang in because it was so embarrassing.

This country is so sick.

12 Years a Slave is in 16th place showing in 19 theaters with a box office take of $923,715 that comes to $48,617 per theater. At say an estimated ticket price of $9, that is 5,401 tickets per theater sold over the weekend counting period. At 6 showing per day over three days, that is 300 folks paying to watch each showing.

Not much of a hit, but it will be rammed down our throats as, "The greatest film ever made that is the truth, the whole truth and... nothing but the truth, you honky bastard!"

“Slave” ranked 16th for its opening weekend.

Just under $1 million gross, with 19 theaters.

Averaged $48,000 per theater, which is quite impressive.

Budget was $20 million.

It's going to make a profit, probably a very big profit.

Just another way to stir the pot. My ancestors didn’t own any slaves. We were raised by the Golden Rule....do unto others. Only bigots see color in everything.

It would be interesting to know what percentage of white Americans had ancestors who did own slaves. My guess is a very small minority. Large numbers of white Europeans emmigrated to America after the civil war, including my own Welsh ancestors. Thinking of the sheer numbers of Irish, Poles, Welsh and others who came over at this time, and the doubling of the population that resulted, coupled with the relatively small number of slave owners before the war, and subsequent emmigrations during the world wars, it is probably a small number indeed.

Here is something to think about. Since they started keeping records of it around 1886, there have been over 4000 lynchings in the U.S., one fourth of them white people. Now although those extrajudicial actions resulted in a number of innocent people being murdered, undoubtedly many of the people lynched were guilty of the crimes committed. I remember reading several stories about white criminals out west who were lynched by white mobs.

However since the growth in population of blacks in northern cities after WWII, many whites have been murdered/lynched by black criminals. The difference between the whites murdered by blacks and the whites lynched by white mobs was that the whites murdered by blacks were virtually all innocent. And there have been 300-400 whites murdered every year by black thugs for over fifty years. That comes out to approx. 20,000 whites murdered by black criminals since the start of the modern civil rights era. That number far exceeds the numbers of blacks lynched (again most of whom were guilty of their alleged crimes) during the days when people were dragged out of jail cells and given the ultimate penalty for their crimes.

My ancestors were starving in Ireland before coming here.... after the Civil War.

According to a book I have, it was 5000 lynchings. 3500 of them was black people who supported the Republican cause, and 1500 WHITE REPUBLICANS.

No Dems were hanged.

Exactly right!

Also, don’t forget that most of the time the white male is there to be ridiculed and essentially spat on. His purpose is to work (to pay taxes to support the entire freakshow) and buy things. Look at even the most benign Home Depot type ads - the white male is a blithering idiot, he can’t select the right sandpaper or paint without the _____ (woman, black, gay, whatever) telling him what to select.

Even the most non-political shows, like Wheeler Dealers on the Velocity Channel that I watch TO ESCAPE THIS BULLSH*T are starting to pander; one episode had two dyke, interracial “civil partners” in it. The HGTV/DIY Channels have the “partner/tossed salad/colors of the rainbow” BS in their shows as well.
