News that an uninsured transgender woman in Colorado was denied a free mammogram has prompted two advocacy groups to petition the federal government for equality in screening.
“That is irrational discrimination, plain and simple,” said Harper Jean Tobin, director of policy for the National Center for Transgender Equality.
“Breast-cancer screenings save lives and should be available to all women, period,” added Shane Snowdon, director of the Human Rights Campaign’s health and aging program.
President Obama’s 2010 Affordable Care Act prohibits discrimination “on the basis of sex, including on the basis of gender identity or sex stereotyping,” they wrote Friday in a letter to Dr. Thomas Frieden, director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
Current federal guidance says that only women who are “genetically female” are eligible for subsidized mammograms....

I say make the “free”-gram using a wringer.
Hey, I'm good with it. Let's include mammograms for men and prostrate exams for women. I'm shuddering at the thought of what a male hysterectemy is going to be.
The GOP should get free testicle exams. The cost would be minimal.
The basic problem here is the misuse of the word “free.” There is no “free.” If you’re getting a good or service, and you’re not paying for it, someone else is. And that would be John Q. Taxpayer. And I can’t find anywhere in the Constitution where it says it’s the government’s responsibility to supply mammograms.
Higher cancer risks.
Women are supposed to have babies and use their mammaries generously to feed their infants. Sorta the use it or lose it principle.

“She” is a MAN!!!!! He has no more risk of breast cancer than any OTHER man!!! (Men can get breast cancer, but the incidence is very low) OTOH, screwing around with massive doses of hormones could conceivably have unforeseen side effects....

Men can be referred for mammograms if there are reasons to suggest breast cancer. Why doesn’t this clinic include those men in their “free” offer?
