In effect the exchange set itself up as the sole marketplace for new health insurance in Washington D.C. Have other stated done this --- Can They?

And so the slide toward single payer begins. Who is surprised it starts in DC?

So health insurance could only be purchased at a certain time of year in D.C.?

The left loves a woman’s right to choose to abort her baby and a homosexual’s right to bugger other guys. Yet, they cannot permit people to make their own health insurance decisions. If the left’s programs are so good, I have to ask. Why aren’t people free to opt out of them????

Nathan Bedford's first Maxim of American politics:
all politics in America is not local but ultimately racial. Is this conscious step toward single-payer socialized medicine a product of local politics or racial politics?

It frustrates me to no end when liberals replace a competitive free market with a monopoly, thinking [sic] that the monopoly will provide better service for less money. I have a co-worker who supports everything Obama does solely because Obama has a ‘D’ after his name. When I ask him to give me a single case where a monopoly provides more service for less money than a competitive free market, he comes up empty every time. Yet he still supports the monopoly over the free market because it’s the Democrats who did it.

My two favorite liberals who work for county gov just got told they will be moving to DeathCare soon. They were also told the prices would double, the deductible will quadruple, and care will be limited to certain facilities. We told them this would happen and they were adamant that Obama wouldn’t let that happen. We also told them that at 50+ they are subject to death panel review of any major care. NOW they are finally worried.

I thought everybody in D.C. was either on Medicare, Medicaid, in the Federal Employees Heath Benefit Plan, or simply showing up in the Emergency Rooms with their coughs or bullet holes whenever they needed "free" treatment?
How is making "private insurance" illegal going to affect anybody in the Federal Hell Hole?

Have other states done this --- Can They?Is that legal?
My sense is this.
DC is not a state. It is an administrative district for the purpose of running the seat of federal government. It is overseen by Congress according to Article I Section 8.
So, 1) no, other states cannot do this, and 2) it's probably legal in DC only, if Congress approves it.
