Sign in High School Promotes Population Control, Tells Teens Two Kids Maximum

Fr. John Hollowell, a priest and blogger from Indiana, saw a disturbing sign in the hallways of Northview High School in Brazil, IN.

At first when I walked past the sign I thought to myself – “Oh, cool, they’re starting to catch on that our population levels are at a critical phase and that we’re heading for a demographic winter because no one is having kids anymore; they’re trying to get the word out that our population growth is trending towards a crisis….”

Then I literally had a sick feeling in my stomach when I realized I had the sign completely wrong.

In 1968, the book The Population Bombwas released and predicted, among other things, mass famine and death from starvation due to overpopulation. The book initially claimed that there was no possible way for India to feed its population of 200 million. Since the book was published, India’s population has grown to over a billion, and while malnourishment levels are unacceptably high, it is mostly due to corruption and and government ineffectiveness, not overpopulation. The mass starvation due to food shortages never came to fruition–food production actually increasedfaster than ever before.

Despite the completely wrong predictions in The Population Bomb, the idea that the world is becoming grossly overpopulated has remained in the public’s mind. This has led to a shockingly low fertility rate in the western world–almost all of Europe is not reproducing at replacement-level rates.

It is not a school’s job to dictate family size to its students, but I am not at all surprised by this sort of rhetoric. This ridiculous project is grounded in junk science and overly-hysterical predictions, and should not be presented as fact to students.

Zero population growth, indeed a moderate but steady diminution in our population levels, is a desirable goal for reasons quite apart from Malthusian fear mongering.

The population of America has more than doubled my lifetime and, while the problem is not feeding these people, it is how they vote, how they intrude on my lifestyle, how they make demands on space, water, recreational areas, and highways. How the burgeoning mass of people clamoring for a share of limited resources demand political solutions, such as land-use controls, which inevitably infringe on my liberties (and yours whether you realize it or not) and cumulatively generate a real threat to conservative values.

Now, imagine the cries of “genocide” that would ensue if such a sign were put up in a public school in a “diverse” community. Imagine if the sign were printed in Spanish.

Make no mistake: if your skin color is that of 97.1% of the population of Brazil, Indiana, the Bad People don’t want you around, and they are going to replace you, whether it’s through immigration, or messages like this, which resonate with you because people like you actually care about open space, the environment, etc. The people who are intended to replace you don’t care about those things.

Totally agreed. America was a better and more free place when it wasn’t as crowded with people. Look what happened to California since the 70s. It was a middle class paradise, a family could have a single breadwinner and live in a beach town. Now you have to be a millionaire or you have to live 20 to a house like the Mexicans.

I agree with everything you’ve written. I write only to amplify this point: Only people like you care about the values associated with a stable population. So the powers that be will use those things that you care about: resource scarcity, crowding, environmental values, etc., as a weapon against you and the people like you. You and I will are encouraged to be “responsible” in our family planning decisions, while our replacements are encouraged to have large families to further their “vibrant” and “energetic” “diverse” communities.

Imagine if this were posted in inner-city Indianapolis in a majority black or Hispanic school — in Spanish there.

The outcry would be all over CNN and the alphabet networks about genocide being waged against “persons of color.”

Yet white kids? The media yawn.

The parents need to raise h*** (I would if that were my daughter or son’s school).
The school (representing the STATE) has NO RIGHT to tell kids to do any such thing, it’s none of their business. I’d be asking why this message is in THIS school and it is all across the state or just in white-majority schools.

If it is ONLY in white-majority schools, then IS a message of genocide against the white population — and needs to be stopped in its tracks.
