Immigration reform advocates plan an aggressive campaign to bring the issue back and the White House has signaled its on board. Can Obama emerge from the fiscal crisis with enough momentum to win the immigration fight?
As the fiscal fight roiling Washington nears its end, the White House is already signaling that it plans to use the political momentum it has gained during the shutdown fight to charge back into the immigration debate. And this time, Democratic pollsters and advocates say, they could actually win.
The final chapter of the current crisis hasnt been written yet, but Democrats in Washington are privately confident that theyll emerge with the upper hand over the conservatives in Congress who forced a government shutdown. And sources say the administration plans to use its victory to resurrect an issue that was always intended to be a top priority of Obamas second-term agenda.
Advocates argue the post-fiscal crisis political reality could thaw debate on the issue in the House, which froze in earlier this year after the Senate passed a bipartisan immigration bill that was led by Republican Sen. Marco Rubio and Democratic Sen. Chuck Schumer.
Its at least possible with sinking poll numbers for the Republicans, with a [GOP] brand that is badly damaged as the party that cant govern responsibly and is reckless that theyre going to say, Alright, what can we do that will be in our political interest and also do tough things? said Frank Sharry, executive director of the immigration reform group Americas Voice. Thats where immigration could fill the bill.

With Republicans as opposition any victory is easy for Obama.
It is NOT an “immigration problem”, it is a flat-out invasion problem.
I am, and shall always be, a NATIVIST.

“He wont use SS IMO. He will use EBT and all the others, but hell be sued if he doesnt pay out on SS. It will backfire on him.”
He’s already said SS recipients won’t get checks

and if a president is willing to harm americans purposefully as he’s done in the sequester, I don’t think we should underestimate him.
Like I said, he may SAY it, but he won’t do it, not as long as there is enough of the 12.4% contributions coming in.
He (actually, Congress) really only has an option for that amount in excess of that required to pay the SS outlays.
If he did this, he’d find himself smack in the middle of an injunction by some Federal Judge....the third rail lobby is vicious, even more vicious than the EBT lobby (for which he has no legal basis to pay).
Prolly won’t be much of a fight. Most of the surrender monkey Republicans want amnesty also.
evidently 37% JA rating and falling is “momentum”...
that is dead in the water, unless of course he adds it to the mix for the resumed “negotiations” in January. if so, we cave, he gets it... what else is new..
he holds the g*n to our head...says we are holding the gun.. then gets his way.... rinse repeat.
In other words, they’ve reached some deal with Boehner to have him pass this stuff with Dem votes and then ease him into a cushy lobbying job next year.
Really? S.S. is ‘legal’ and, as such, able to be tacked upon the debt (Oops, more like into the ‘unfunded liabilities’ column...but I digress)?
‘Gov’t can provide’ for your retirement but can’t do the same for your ‘healthcare’? Does not compute.
