At a tea party rally in Washington Sunday billed as the Million Vet March, one idiot decided to bring Confederate flag, which was enough for liberals to paint the entire Republican Party as racist.

I grew up there, steeped in its history and traditions. Surrounded by a roll call of honor, I resided in such storied places as Manassas and Fredericksburg. Walked their battle fields, and openly wept at places named "The Bloody Angle" "Spotsylvania Courthouse," "The Bloody Lane," and "Marye's Heights." Lived on streets and attended schools named after Beaureguard, Lee, Jackson, Stewart, and Longstreet. Educated by its teachers, all Virginia born and raised. I made the pilgrimages to Jamestown and Williamsburg, and yes, to Lexington as well to place a sugar cube at Traveller's grave, and a lemon at Jackson's.
All this to say I can assure you with absolute confidence, that were he alive today, and from what I know of him from the historical record, Robert E. Lee himself would tell them to furl that banner, and put it away. It has no place in the public square. We fought that war, and lost. Do not dishonor its memory by attaching it to the political forces at play today. We are one and indivisible. Our foe remains the one occupying the White House and speeding the nation to ruin. Our White House. Our nation. One nation. Advance the Colors. Our colors.
Yeppers, I am now convinced that the Rebel Flag does not represent Democrat Slavers.
Once you grow up, let me know.
I agree. We cave on the flag, they’re already in the process of degrading the Cross-do we cave on that, because of the Inquisition? Then next we cave on the American flag because of the “indigenous people”? Where do we draw the line? When do we stop allowing them to define the narrative?
Co-signed.
Nuff said.
Today the liberals are “outraged” about Columbus.
I never stated that the US is perfect; but it has been and is the best thing going. Let me know if any other country would treat the Cherokee, Sioux, Apache, Crow, etc. the way the US are treating them now. Most people here would like to have their freedom of no taxtion from the Federal government.
liberals always have to find something to have their fake outrage shown.
They’re like kids where if one is outraged or upset then the other kid has to be more upset to get more of the attention.
They should be treated like my mother treated me when I threw a tantrum. She found that ridicule worked wonders.
point is that you say now, but we are on about history.
Those tribes have not forgot trust me which flag flew.
Bottom line is that the left thinks it can dictate what we say, how we view issues and if one goes against their view point then the race, , what ever card is played.
I say screw them, Hell I won’t even play their name games like gay which is homosexual, undocumented immigrant, which is illegal , ACA which is socialist health care etc etc etc.
Thanks so much for the ping! The leftists want to purge Columbus Day from the calendar as they did with Washington's Birthday, creating the generic "President's Day". Their goal is to have just a single holiday left named after an individual, "Reverend" "Doctor" Martin Luther King, Junior. The actual facts about MLK are worthy of an entire thread -- and there have been quite a few here on Free Republic. Hint: He wasn't a Conservative.
I too have an ancestry of slavers; I do not, and cannot, justify their behavior. And that does not mean that the children of sinners are guilty of their parents sin; unless one tries to justify this evil behavior.
“Chris Matthews says!”
“Janeane Garofalo says!”
“Bill Maher says!”
They need to stop listening to the lowest of the low information Socialist talking heads and find out some actual truth.
It’s beautiful to my eyes.
mine too.
I find the rainbow flag, hijacked by the gay liberal agenda, to be far more offensive than the confederate flag.
Liberals can suck on that. my opinion is just as valid as theirs.
“Maybe they should read a history book instead of believing what they hear in the media about the Confederate flag.”
Reading is hard.
I thought he was a plant too.
“gay which is homosexual”
I prefer the Biblical term “sodomite”. It’s totally descriptive of the only thing they’re about, and the word carries weight amd authority, less “clinical” than “homosexual”.
One can tell right away who the “enemy” might be if you have ears to the ground - noticed an esp. visceral response from libbie friends about the “tea party”; and a decided sense that they particularly need some sort of scapegoat du jour to feel justified. Typically, if one brings facts, logic, or reason to a discussion or debate, it rapidly devolves into namecalling - watch for it - and is part of the strategy utilized (when people aren’t buying what they are selling) pick a target, isolate it, polarize it, demonize it, ridicule, etc. The problem is decent, hardworking everday folks are just that - decent people! So, they are susceptible to what are known as “thought ending cliches” - words or phrases that are so emotionally loaded or have the purported ability to end the debate.
In years past the demarcation line was clearly evident when, having lost any rational discussion or debate, “Well, you just listen to Rush Limbaugh...” as if that is the end of the discussion on any subject, and more importantly, by conflating things that aren’t part of the discussion.
The important thing isn’t whether the person being attacked listens to Rush or watches “Faux News”, rather it’s clear to me that it’s the person making ad hominems doesn’t listen to Rush, only what they have been told about Rush. What is happenin’ here is pretty dang clear, setting up “straw man” acceptable designated objects of derision and utilizing the power of the press and bully pulpit to work over everyone’s guilt gland.
