Shelves in Walmart stores in Springhill and Mansfield, LA were reportedly cleared Saturday night, when the stores allowed purchases on EBT cards even though they were not showing limits. Additional Links Computer issue, not government shutdown, likely cause of EBT card failures
The chaos that followed ultimately required intervention from local police, and left behind numerous carts filled to overflowing, apparently abandoned when the glitch-spurred shopping frenzy ended.
Springhill Police Chief Will Lynd confirms they were called in to help the employees at Walmart because there were so many people clearing off the shelves. He says Walmart was so packed, "It was worse than any black Friday" that he's ever seen.
Lynd explained the cards weren't showing limits and they called corporate Walmart, whose spokesman said to let the people use the cards anyway. From 7 to 9 p.m., people were loading up their carts, but when the cards began showing limits again around 9, one woman was detained because she rang up a bill of $700.00 and only had .49 on her card. She was held by police until corporate Walmart said they wouldn't press charges if she left the food.

It sounds to me that the individual SNAP accounts ARE going to be charged after-the-fact. It is out of Wal-Mart's hands really. Some people will find their next two or three months of benefits will be nil.

I’ve read several places that the social makeup of shoppers changed dramatically when the EBT failed. I know it is racist to say that even if true - a real shame that truth is racist but it seems to be a statement of fact. Maybe all the poor on EBT were there yesterday...and did not try to take advantage of the situation. Mercy, we are in such a mess! People have no morals anymore less shame!
The standard ones don't but people can get the Obamaphone minutes on their own phone (as long as it is a Tracfone, etc.).
It also works as a test. A few hours earlier when they weren’t working at all, the call was for riots, then in this case looting.
A simple statement of stopping welfare benefits will incite enough riots to provide the perfect excuse for martial law in the mind of the Dictator. Then their benefits will be ‘restored’ and we will be criminalized.
