this could have been handled smarter, like requiring overbalance purchases to be adjusted, sorry no jackpots.

It sounds to me that the individual SNAP accounts ARE going to be charged after-the-fact. It is out of Wal-Mart's hands really. Some people will find their next two or three months of benefits will be nil.

I know that if I die tomorrow, the government will force my wife to repay the S.S. check I received the first of this month. If I die on 30 Oct - same thing.

I will have to see that happen first before I believe it. Even better would be to see fraud charges levied, leading to lifetime bans for any entitlements.
