Its made for Hollywood: the story of an average American family man, captain of a cargo ship in dangerous waters, his vessel overtaken by armed Somali pirates demanding ransom, saving his crew by allowing himself to be removed from the boat and taken hostage.
All of this is the basis for Captain Phillips, starring Tom Hanks as the titular, real-life hero. The only problem, say some members of the real Capt. Phillips crew, is none of it is true.
Capt. Richard Phillips, they say, is no hero, and the film is one big lie.
Phillips wasnt the big leader like he is in the movie, says one crew member, who, for legal reasons, spoke with The Post anonymously. He worked very closely with Phillips on the Maersk Alabama and was alarmed by his behavior from the beginning. Phillips, he says, had a bad reputation for at least 12 years prior, known as a sullen and self-righteous captain.

I wondered about that - interestingly, there was a one hour documentary on this event over the weekend....I think the Military Channel - featuring the captain and about 3-4 crew members. I did not have a chance to watch it....
So the truth comes out...
more manufactured lies by Hollywood
Military Chanel had a segment on the Somalia pirates take down.
I don’t need another version, esp. Hollywood’s ‘based on a true story’ ‘story-telling’.
Eff Tom Spanx and the Spielberg he rode in on
Elitist progressive snots
Tom Hanks ... I smell a liberal rat.
p.s. given that he devoted so much time to the creation of the WWII memorial from private funds, the fact that he has not publicly rebuked his master occupying OUR oval office exposes him as pathetic hypocrite.
Oh get real.
Everything that comes from Hollywood is 100% true & spin free
Since when has a lie stopped a Tom Hanks opus?
Next thing you know they'll be claiming PT109 was all a hoax.
Imagine that. The folks known for fiction make a fictional movie
Nice Pix, where are the floating empty booze bottles?
In a long conversation I had with him he confirmed to me what really happened on board the Maersk Alabama...and it definitely wasn't the Hollywood version.
His best description of Capt. Phillips was that the man was a ..."dumbass"
and....Obama did NOT give the OK for the SEAL to make that shot.
The Navy Capt., as the on scene Commander, had the final determination, and made the call to take the shot.
AFTER the fact, the administration decided to capitalize on the results.
“Phillips said he knows nothing about such a plan”. The ‘plan’ is the Ship Security Plan (SSP), required on every ship by the ISPS Code. It MUST be read and acknowledged by the signature of the Master and Ship Security Officer (SSO) upon joining the ship. These two officers are they only persons allowed to hold the SSP.
And what of the crew who says that fire and boat drills are only carried out once per year? On every ship that I was Master of, these drills were done monthly, if not more often.
.......seen it all before, one participant get’s rich the others get $5,000. The one’s that got only $5,000 are pissed so they whine and cry.
In the end, like always, it’s all about money!
The ‘real’ captain claimed he was not nearly as pliant as the movie portrayed.
This seems to be a Hollywood version to history — long on drama, short on facts.
Never understood why the US government can drone Al-Qaeda members who can hide in Yemen but not Somalian pirates on a wide open ocean.
Look at a map and notice how close these countries are located to one another.
No dramas are ‘true’. Not a single one.
