Jeff Jones started shopping for health insurance as soon as the Obamacare insurance marketplaces opened on October 1.
The Kentucky resident is like a lot LGBT citizens who have not had access to affordable health insurance in the past. If Jones, 47, had been able to legally marry, he would have immediately been eligible for coverage under his partner, Nathan Walkers, policy. Walker has domestic partnership benefits at work, but the couple havent lived together long enough to qualify for them.
Im a diabetic, so I do want to make sure Im covered, Jones said.
As a whole the LGBT community has less experience with insurance than the general population. A survey done by Out2Enroll, a group that focuses on helping the LGBT community with health issues, found that about a third of respondents were uninsured. Its estimated some 16.3% of the general population is uninsured.
In honor of National Coming Out Day on Friday, Out2Enrolls Be Out. Be Healthy. Get Covered campaign has launched a new LGBT-friendly website with advice about how to navigate the insurance marketplace.

The gays I know are very pro Obamacare.
Their health is such a mess from their promiscuity and their weird sexual ways that a lot of them have terrible diseases. It is worth it to them to pay anything for some sort of health care. I remember one I knew who had resistant gonorrhea in his throat from the things he did. But he died from AIDS. People like that will pay the overpriced, insane Obamacare prices for problems like that.
Obamacare is PC, they don’t care if people who live right and take care of their health have are punished by subsidizing these jacked up plans.
That should really help the cause. A population known for perverted sexual activity that spread a modern day plague all across American and Europe is in favor of ObamaCare. Right. Keep in the good work. Every time the fags “come out” to support it, 1 million more Americans will reject it.
A sizable number of gays are HIV positive and “uninsurable” because of pre-existing conditions. I would expect a high percentage of them to sign up for Obamacare because they were rejected from most private health insurance plans.
When progressivism meets this reality of Obamacare, the 2013 version of pitchforks, tar, and feathers will show up. It will happen.
The poor, unemployed, blacks, hispanics, and middle class are going to get bitch slapped and beaten under Obamacare. They are just too dazed, confuzed, and stupid with an obamaphone in one ear and en EBT card in the hand. What they won't have is their monthly cash premiums paid and their copays and coinsurance met. All the free mamagrams, colonoscopies, and yearly check-ups don't mean squat once you're sick or broken. Then it's time to drain the cash which they will refuse to do because they thought obamacare was just like food stamps and phones.
They need to give up their risky lifestyle choices for coverage.
Drug abuse (poppers, meth, cocaine, X, alcohol abuse...), random hookups with high risk partners, bug chasing, unsanitary practices...
Now faggots LIKE the idea of bedroom police. I wish they’d make up their minds.
Obamacare law allows for higher premiums for tobaccoa smokers,
but outlaws higher premiums for HIV, those who smoke something else.
And in Chinatown they have With2UGetEggroll
47 years old & he can only get health insurance thru his gay partner?
Why cannot he have a job of his own & buy his own health insurance??
You and other sane people (conservatives) just can't understand this insanity, nor should we. Of course, they HAVE to let everyone know that they are "gay" - EVERYONE.
What does that have to do with buying health insurance? I guess only the homos know.
True—but the risk (once known and put into statistical data)can be managed by the appropriate premiums.
In my burning barn example, for instance, suppose the burning barn was worth 100,000 to replace and it is known that it will be a total loss, then the appropriate ‘insurance’ premium would be $100,000 plus administrative expenses.
Obviously, the owner of the barn wouldn’t agree to paying more that it was worth and would reject the ‘insurance policy’. In effect this happens all the time when folks ask for an insurance quote on high risk ventures.
One of the highest risk occupations for life insurance is crop dusters who crash and die with alarming regularity. There are old crop dusters and bold crop dusters, but there are no old, bold crop dusters. Yet Actuarial data produces a risk premium for that occupation that is far higher than the normal premium.
However—if the farmer’s neighbors can be forced to come up with the $100,000 plus the administration fees-—then he would think this is a great public service for poor barn owners and he would sign up before the embers cooled.
If we get more people with pre-existing health problems into the system than young healthy people who can pay enough to take care of the higher risk (the farmers neighbors)then the Obamacare program will go into an increasing spiral of higher premiums and fewer young people who won’t want to pay.
And all of this is unnecessary since folks with pre-existing conditions go to all sorts of government and hospital programs for those who can’t pay their own way. We should have tweaked this system.
When that happens, insurance companies will come out with a policy to cover the co-pay, for a fee, of course.
