He is right

The President was drowning this year with the NSA/Snowden stuff, the Syria debacle, his Arab spring falling apart, and the implementation of Obamacare

By simply keeping their mouths shut and letting Obamacare collapse on itself, R’s would have made big gains in 2014 in both Houses, rendering the President irrelevant for the rest of his term

This shutdown and now debt ceiling talks has given the Resident new life politically

Those other realities won’t just go away in 2014. To gain rewards in 2013, the Republican base needs to see that the party is a genuine opposition party too.

Otherwise, all those other things you listed mean nothing.

I suppose if you consider 37% approval "new life politically"...

He is wrong.
His position is purely political amounting to letting the prez swing slowly in the breeze.
The effect of the shutdown has been to give O the rope he needed to make a noose for himself. Calling him to task for his demand to be given full authority for everything has resulted in an explosion of epic proportions. O is slaying himself every day. It was bad for him before. Now it is untenable. Sticking it to the vets and Srs is always bad business. O is too immature to understand the impact of his temper tantrum.
By sticking to Constitutional principle the House leadership has proven themselves statesmen, not mere politicians.
Kudos, Boehner, for as long as you are able to keep your spine erect.

“This shutdown and now debt ceiling talks has given the Resident new life politically”

And you believe all those other things have gone away just because the gubmint is shut down???

Unlike the MSM, we are actually able to walk and chew gum at the same time. This isn’t replacing those other scandals: it’s adding to them!

This is just another worthless RINO that needs to be replaced!

Nonsense. All of the things you mentioned would have been ancient history by the time 2014 rolled around. Wherever the Democrats were hurt politically, the press would have minimized any damage, either through deception or through ignoring the issue.

The storyline, in about 6 months, would have been how ObamaCare was improving, and we would have been presented with non-stop stories of people who were benefiting from it.

ObamaCare will never collapse on itself, any more than any other big bureaucratic entity has. It would have been “fixed”, by idiot Republicans and Democrats alike, as it moved toward its inevitable destination — a very malevolent version of single-payer.

By defunding, we are buying time. Once established, the dependencies become too great, and the system we know of today will be so transformed there will be no going back. Blunt is wrong, or he is secretly one of those people who want it, since ObamaCare will give DC such leverage over the people.

Had Cruz (and the house) not done anything, the election of 2014 would have resulted in an irrelevant, marginal change, one way or the other. Now, we at least have the possibility of stopping this monstrosity before it becomes entrenched.

As Cruz says, it is now up to us, to make sure that we politically have the back of those who took such great personal and political risks. Blunt is an irrelevant fool, and should be treated as such.

your opinoin is based on a false premise. The rupublicans wouldn’t had support from concervitives after letting the ACA (Obamacare) and raising the debt ceiling.

Yes, it will collapse in on itself just the way the IRS has, EPA has, the Education and Energy Department have, Fanny Mae and Freddy Mac have vaporized, the way the Fed’s printing of $85 billion a month has led to the Fed’s demise, the way Social Security, Medicaid and Medicare have gone broke and blown away, et al., et al., et al....

The list of our successes in waiting out big goverment is miraculous to behold.

Heard this line of thought in dealing with the democrats 1990, 1992, 1996, 1998, 2000, 2004, 2006, 2008, 2012. Now I will concede we won in 2000-2004, but literally by the skin of our teeth. In 1994 conservative came out in force against Clinton and the RINO’s rolled with the win until we started pushing against RINO agenda. In 2002 we picked up some seats purely on 9/11 emotion and the rest of those years we followed the liberal establishments advice, how has that worked out for us?

Had the Congress conceded this time and rolled over yet again those 2014 dreams of big wins would be just that and still may be depending on how this plays out. The conservative base, continually bit*hed slapped by the RINO’s and Party Boys and then told it was the conservatives fault they lose every time isn’t going to cut it anymore. The base is not prepared to take another beating from the RINO’s and is in a very ugly and unforgiving mood. RINO’s take heed.

With Cruz's 21 hour speech, something very important happened. The Republicans got out-front of the problems with Obamacare. The Dems can't do what they always try to do, which is blame the 'pubs. Obama owns Obamacare, dems are going to have to campaign on the issue, and Obama's place in history is forever destroyed.

It was a brilliant move. And you know what? It doesn't leave Snowden in the background. The government is out of control, and now everyone knows it.

He is right

He's wrong, and this whole shut-down thing and the defunding of Obamacare has pointed a big ol' target on his back for the Tea-Party when he is up for election next time.

He is a coward and a traitor.

If he, along with the 27 other GOP Cowards and Traitors in the Senate, had done the right thing, and voted against cloture, it would have been different, but now, we know who they are, and you can bet we will be coming for them next election cycle.

We will not forget!

That doesn't explain why Obama's approvals are plummeting.

People are just now finding out what Obamacare means to their own budgets. Now is the time to make the distinction.

If congress does not act now we will be saddled with the abomination forever. I swear sometimes I think thats the RINOs' real objective.

Bullpucky! The GOP has sat by while enough scandals has happened to take down any President. So screw you and all the rest who say "obamacare would have collapsed on itself." It only collapses if anyone is paying attention. the GOP Senate has been a master of snatching defeat from the jaws of victory....over and over and over again.

The GOP, for this and many other reasons, is dead. They won't ever win another majority with idiots like King, Ryan, McConnell, Cornyn, and Blunt acquiescing their way to defeat.

Which Senate seat is at risk due to Senate not voting on anything? This is a tough one so I will understand if it takes a while for you to get back to me.

This administration and Fed chair will front load whatever it takes to make Obamacare look good in the short term, I'm sure you know that. The Feds are picking up the tab until Obama is out, then the states will gradually have to take on more funding responsibility.

The Republican message all along should have been(with all the looming entitlement program issues)...(Kerry style)..."this is the wrong law, the wrong place, at the wrong time".

Too many jellyfish GOP-e types are losing it for the party with their weak message...if you don't offer a clear alternative(by just going dem-lite)...than hell, as a voter...why not just go for the FULL Santa Claus...instead of just the elves?

The brilliance of the GOP-e types was to run a war monger(McLame)when the public was sick of war, followed by an equity firm millionaire/pro-gov. healthcare(Romney)when everyone was blaming wall street and greedy financial institutions for the economic crash, at the same time fighting the Obamacare battle.....(real shrewd, huh?).

Shut it down, let people see just how dangerous it is to be so dependent(for your very existence)on Government. If America is so dumbed-down that it cannot figure that out on it's own?

...let the hell fall where it may.

Yeah, that’s Obaomao’s poll numbers are the lowest EVER.

Blunt is my Senator and he holds us in utter contempt. Spoke on the phone with one of his aides just before the shutdown. He spit the term “Tea Party” out when it passed his lips. His disdain was palpable. I will do everything in my power as a constituent to counter Blunt. He is an old paradigm establishment GOP crony-politician.

By simply keeping their mouths shut and letting Obamacare collapse on itself

Obamacare will continue to collapse on itself; these higher premiums are not going away and more and more horror stories lie ahead.

No reason for the Repubs to keep their mouths shut.
