ORLANDO, Fla. - Many people signing up for health care in Florida through the Affordable Care Act have been shocked when they have to give proof of their credit score before they finish the process.
Anne Packham, one of many people licensed by the state to help people navigate the government's website, said on Tuesday that the credit check occurs so providers can make an educated decision about who to insure.

Maybe she thought “deductible” meant from her income taxes. As in she earns $32, 000 and $13,000 she can deduct from her TAXES for her health expenses. I would wager some people don’t know the difference.
“Just a timely reminder from the IT world:
Systems run exactly as they are designed to run. No exceptions.”
Uhhh...no...they run as they are WRITTEN to run :). This often deviates quire a bit!
Hell, you can even use one of Zer0's multiple SSN's to "sign up"!
The theory is that those with low credit scores tend to be the ones that commit insurance fraud.
Everything from crashing a car or torching a home when they get behind on their bills, to claiming dependents they don't have on their health insurance.
The system is probably hosted or backed-up at that NSA data center that was experiencing "major electrical problems" during the same time frame that the ACA site went online. Given all that has recently come to light, it wouldn't surprise me one bit.
Me, either. My subconscious made them one and the same anyway.
That's what I'm thinking. It fits the redistribution of wealth agenda.
As I put it to my liberal "friends", Obamacare, the Law of the Land, is a tax. Credit scores should have nothing to do with the assessment of a tax.
If your credit score is low, then according to Obamacare, you should be paying more in tax, not less.
The current problems are indicative of bad design. Really awful.
I suspect that bad coding is part of the problem but at this point it is way down the list.
The lead contractor was the same one which did the Canadian gun registry, one of the worst systems ever put into place. At various points most of the few guns registered had the same serial number.
She doesn’t know what a deductible is. Wait until that first dr’s visit. It will become all too apparant. Of course, Democrats believe in waiting until it is passed or in place before finding out what is in it.
I've noticed in shopping for insurance that some carriers (for example, All-State) are totally obsessed with credit scores, whereas others (for example, Farmers) are not.
I don’t think it’s about fraud. It’s about poor choices. Poor people make poor choices. Poor choices means higher risks. Which means higher premiums.
Understand that no one made the choice to lose their job because of Obama’s economy. But that is a small percentage of people with bad credit scores.
...which, upon inevitable failure, will bring in single provider.
OMG something that insurers have done for years was not made illegal by Obamacare!!!!
(they not only want to know an applicants health status they want to know if they can expect premiums will get paid on time - it’s all part of the financial risk calculations)
The good news is that your prices may go up by an average of $5500 a year for a family of four, and you may be denied based on bad credit, but at least Sandra Fluke can get all the birth control she needs. Get your priorities straight.
you two may be totally correct.
