LANSING, Mich., Oct. 7 (UPI) -- A proposed law in Michigan is aimed at ensuring beer drinkers who pay for a pint get at least 16 ounces.
The measure was introduced in the House last week, MLive.com reported. It would ban what barflies refer to as "cheater glasses" with thick bottoms so they look like they hold a pint but actually take a few ounces less.
State Rep. Jim Irwin, a Democrat from the college town of Ann Arbor, said the state regulates meat and other foodstuffs to make sure buyers get what they pay for. Irwin introduced a similar law in 2011 after being shorted on a pint of beer and is a co-sponsor of the new legislation.

If you’re at a picnic it might be acceptable to drink beer in a Solo cup, but if you’re at home, please, buy decent beer glasses. An exception being if you’re drinking Corona, Bud Light or similar ‘beer’, the Solo cups won’t hurt, so proceed.
I understand these Budweiser “Bow Tie” cans actually hold 1/2 an oz. less than a standard beer can.
I wonder what the Great State of Michigan intends to do about THAT???
They are not ‘official’ measurements, and according to Solo, they are just lines on a mold, not meant for anything specific.

The urban myth, if you want to call it that may have started with a Toby Keith country song:
Red Solo Cup
Toby Keith
Songwriters: Beavers, Brett; Beavers, Jim; Warren, Brad; Warren, Brett
Now, red solo cup is the best receptical
For barbecues, tailgates, fairs, and festivals
And you, sir, do not have a pair of testicles
If you prefer drinkin’ from glass
Hey, red solo cup is cheap and disposable
And in fourteen years, they are decomposable
And unlike my home, they are not foreclosable
Freddy Mac can kiss my ass
Whoo!
Red solo cup
I fill you up
Let’s have a party
Let’s have a party
I love you, red solo cup
I lift you up
Proceed to party
Proceed to party
Now, I really love how you’re easy to stack
But I really hate how you’re easy to crack
‘Cause when beer runs down in front of my pack
Well, that, my friends, is quite yucky
But I have to admit that the ladies get smitten
Admirin’ how sharply my first name is written
On you with a Sharpie when I get to hittin’
On them to help me get lucky
Red solo cup
I fill you up
Let’s have a party
Let’s have a party
I love you, red solo cup
I lift you up
Proceed to party
Proceed to party
Now, I’ve seen you in blue and I’ve seen you in yellow
But only you, red, will do for this fellow
‘Cause you are the Abbot to my Costello
And you are the Fruit to my Loom
Red solo cup, you’re more than just plastic
You’re more than amazing, you’re more than fantastic
And believe me that I am not the least bit sarcastic
When I look at you and say
Red solo cup, you’re not just a cup
(No! No! No! God, no! )
You’re my-you’re my (Friend?) friend
(Friend x3; Life-long)
Thank you for being my friend
Red solo cup
I fill you up
Let’s have a party
Let’s have a party
I love you, red solo cup
I lift you up
Proceed to party
Proceed to party
Red solo cup
I fill you up
Let’s have a party
Let’s have a party
Red solo cup
Let’s have a party
Proceed to party

Silly me, I thought people had these these things called feet. If you aren’t getting what you paid for, don’t drink there.
MI ping.
It seems like there would already be laws on the books requiring a pint to be 16 oz.
Now THERE’s a State with their priorities in order.
Why not make it a half-liter? Kill two birds with one stone—use the politically correct metric system and make the pint a guaranteed 16.9 ounces?
Following your logic, it’s okay to sell 120 fluid ounces of gasoline as a “gallon”? There’s a reason why units of measure in commerce are regulated and enforced.
Or a law redefining one unit or the other. Make a "pint" = "10 ounces", makes as much sense as most of the legislation we're subjected to because some arrogant people think they know better.
Whoa.... I suddenly feel cheated and violated....
I thought Ann Arbor was a Dry Town?...../s
Finally some good news.
Make sure those 1oz shot glasses hold a troy oz or more.
As it should be.
I thought it would go without saying, but it seems I should have added /s tag.
