LANSING, Mich., Oct. 7 (UPI) -- A proposed law in Michigan is aimed at ensuring beer drinkers who pay for a pint get at least 16 ounces.
The measure was introduced in the House last week, MLive.com reported. It would ban what barflies refer to as "cheater glasses" with thick bottoms so they look like they hold a pint but actually take a few ounces less.
State Rep. Jim Irwin, a Democrat from the college town of Ann Arbor, said the state regulates meat and other foodstuffs to make sure buyers get what they pay for. Irwin introduced a similar law in 2011 after being shorted on a pint of beer and is a co-sponsor of the new legislation.

In Germany, and the rest of Europe I think, the glasses that you are served in restaurants and bars have lines on them stating the amount of liquid in each..................
Now that I can get behind.
Right-O!
"It comes in pints?? I'm getting one!"
Doesn’t anybody play it straight anymore?
Yeah, can’t argue this one. If they say it’s a pint, then it had better be a pint, or it’s fraud.
Hooray for government regulation. Braarraaap. Hckickup.
Did somebody say free beer?
I’ve put many of those glasses and mugs to the test!!!! LOL
Ah, my FRiend, let me introduce you to the Giant Imperial Quart!
Priorities are straight in Michigan!
Finally government does something USE-FULL! (sic)(hic).................
Only to see the talking frog.
So!
“They”’ve been screwing us on me pint, too...
Absolutely NOTHING is sacred!!!!!
Semper B@$tard$ !!!!!!!!!!

I am somewhat chagrined to admit that I never realized those lines are measurements.
The most useful one—an 8 ounce line—was omitted, though.
It’s becoming common for sports bars in the U.S. to use 14 ounce glasses in order to avoid raising prices on the menu. If they don’t label it as pint on the menu, then that’s ok, but if they do, then it’s fraud. Also, I’m pretty sure a lot of customers are still saying “give me a pint of ...” and are actually receiving 14oz glasses, which is borderline fraud if the waitperson doesn’t educate them.
Seeing that this is a democrat proposal you might want to look deeper...
Like in order to enforce this law every glass of beer will be taxed an addition 20 cents.
Just Saying!
Quite honestly, I don't get it. Don't they have laws about fraud? Don't they enforce those laws? My uncle was a deputy director of the ABC in NJ and this was exactly the kind of stuff they went after. Could it be that some politician would like a law on the books with his name on it?
