More than 200 people marched through Miami Beach on Sunday, clogging tourist-filled sidewalks to demand the arrest of a policeman who fired a stun gun at a graffiti artist who died in police custody.
The protesters alleged that Officer Jorge Mercado used excessive force when he used a Taser on Israel Hernandez-Llach, 18, during an arrest attempt in August.

Punk ran away.
Cops chased, tasered him to take into custody.
Punk has medical emergency, cops call medical team. Punk dies, family claims abuse.
Media complies with myth.
Cops are becoming more and more militarized and violent.
The Miami media would like to have a riot every day.
There was a time that most of us would feel the same way. Now, anyone who pays attention doesn’t take anything cops say at face value.
The cop isn't without issues and I think dying for graffiti is a tad draconian.
When tazers first hit the street cops told us they would only be used in leiu of bullets. This assurance was made because tazers do have the ability to kill, even if the probability is low. Now tazers are used to gain physical compliance, in the way batons were once used. Unless the police had a situation where bullets were appropriate the tazer never should have left the officer’s belt.
Visited that area of South Florida once in my life. Will never ever return. Worse people in America. Their goal in life is too inflict pain on each other.
As of December 2012, roughly one million people have pacemakers in the United States. Pacemakers have progressed in the past years.
Although Tasers are non-lethal to the average human, for a big portion of our society they can be. Not only those with pacemakers, but others with undetected heart conditions can be killed by them.
In my opinion, and I’m the world’s foremost expert on my opinion, Tasers should be considered to be lethal weapons.
“Unless the police had a situation where bullets were appropriate the tazer never should have left the officers belt.”
I fully agree. The TAZOR is a lesser form of “deadly force” and should only be used in the stead of bullet.
Except when an officer’s life is in immediate and obvious danger, a TAZOR should not be used.....and never a merely a means to make someone comply. I do not want to be dogmatic though...I am certain there are other legitimate uses for a TAZOR.
Wait! Where are all the protests for the black mother who was not tazered but SHOT by the DC police last week, with a child in her car?
Facebook engineer the riot so that it occurs at the Miami press building.
He only used the tazor because the swat team was on a donut break.
This appears to be non-white on non-white violence, and therefore is not deserving of publication.

That’s strange. I have visited numerous times and have never experienced anything of that nature. My visist are limited to South Beach and the Cruise Teminals. :^)
Would they rather the officer have put a half dozen bullets in him???
Lots of bleeding hearts even here on FR, apparently.
Why use such force on a non-violent suspect?
Maybe it was Trayvon related tension, but I am never visiting again. And neither will the dozens who were working with me. My friends up in Orlando tell me they can spot someone from Miami in 5 minutes. Just by the way they act.
Bingo!!! nuff said. Have a cold one on me!
