......This is a good example of why things that matter most to Texans like the Alamo remain Texan, just like the Christmas Mountains out in West Texas, said Texas Land Commissioner Jerry Patterson, referring to a misguided attempted federal land grab that drew attention back in 2008.
Texas isn't going to let government get in the way of honoring our heroes, whether it's at the Alamo or at the VLB, Patterson said.
The shrine to Texas heroes of long ago remains open. And so do the Texas Veterans Land Boards eight Texas State Veterans Homes, which take care of our living heroes, said Patterson, chairman of the Texas Veterans Land Board.
The shutdown is not stopping us from caring for our heroes, Patterson said. We do not anticipate any problems with us receiving Veterans Administration payments for nursing home care, but the VLB has more than enough funds in our veterans programs to cover the costs should federal funding cease and until this shutdown is resolved.
.....Texas has always taken care of her veterans. In 1836, the Texas General Land Office was formed, in part, to make sure veterans of the Texas Revolution were given land rights they were promised in exchange for their role in liberating Texas. In 1946, the VLB was created to provide the same for Texan veterans of a different war who helped liberate the world.
Today, the VLB serves more than 1.7 million Texas veterans of all ages. The VLBs eight Texas State Veterans Homes serve more than a thousand veterans and their families needing long-term, high-quality care.....

Listen to Bender, he has it right.
The Left has demonstrated not only the will, but the ability, to manipulate the national elections via Chicago-style Alinsky fraud.
We will not see a conservative candidate rise to that level again in our lifetime.
then we must ban together to prevent this.....or fight it.
He’s running for Lt. Gov...
I went to the debate they had in Houston last week, with Todd Staples, Dewhurst, and Dan Patrick...
Those are the only other folks I know putting in for that job...I think they had another one in Tyler, Texas this last Saturday...
They are making the rounds and they are ALL making pretty good points, without a lot of BS being thrown around that isn’t called for...All of them have been working together for years, so to me, iit is hard to really find diferences other than personal preferences between any of them...
Trying to “out-conservative” another conservative (whatever the level of that conservatism is) is hard to do, and get away with...It almost looks like you hae toliberalize your positions to separate yourself from the pack...And even then, it take a keen eye and ear to pick them out when they do that...
My preference (in order) so far, and I know some will vehemently dissagree, but thats ok, Texas will survive...

Just my opinion...FYI...
I bleive the Feds learned a lesson recently when they tried to close up Mt. Vernon back east...That facility is run a lot like The Alamo is in Texas...
I imagine that if the Feds tried to shut down the access to the Alamo, they might very well have a serious problem on their hands...
Not only native Texans would be riled up by that attempt, but I have a very good feeling that some patriotic Tejanos would be in our ranks a well, and very welcome at that!!!
I blieve it is a line in the sand that the Feds know all too well they had beter not cross in this state, or many other places as well...
The eggshells cannot hold them up very well outside the Beltway...
Things are rapidly coming to a head, and in about ten days, we are going to see who we can count on when that bubble bursts...
There are more of them than there are of us now, Bender. Last November I became literally sick to my stomach when I saw that we’ve officially crossed the demographic line where the takers can outvote the makers.
The observation (made by more than one observer)is true: When a majority of voters in a “democracy” realizes it can vote itself largess out of the treasury, it’s doomed.
“Democracy” is when three wolves and a sheep vote on what’s for dinner.
No different than in 1836.
Except I do believe even the citizens of San Antonio will be eager to resist the communists. Who the hell cares what goes on in Austin, they’ll all run screaming to safe Blue ground.
I bet Obama going get his butt rung in 2014 mid term election I hope so
Bread and Circuses is the cancer of democracy, the fatal disease for which there is no cure. Democracy often works beautifully at first. But once a state extends the franchise to every warm body, be he producer or parasite, that day marks the beginning of the end of the state. For when the plebs discover that they can vote themselves bread and circuses without limit and that the productive members of the body politic cannot stop them, they will do so, until the state bleeds to death, or in its weakened condition the state succumbs to an invaderthe barbarians enter Rome.

Gadzooks! Could Bob... put it any plainer?
It’s not a sure thing at all. Read Bender’s post #28.

It is a truism that almost any sect, cult, or religion will legislate its creed into law if it acquires the political power to do so, and will follow it by suppressing opposition, subverting all education to seize early the minds of the young, and by killing, locking up, or driving underground all heretics.

A human being should be able to change a diaper, plan an invasion, butcher a hog, conn a ship, design a building, write a sonnet, balance accounts, build a wall, set a bone, comfort the dying, take orders, give orders, cooperate, act alone, solve equations, analyze a new problem, pitch manure, program a computer, cook a tasty meal, fight efficiently, die gallantly. The founders’ being well armed is why we don’t have a Democracy, we have a Republic.
