FirstEnergy says it will close two coal-fired power plants in southwestern Pennsylvania as scheduled next week with no expectations that they will be sold or reopened under stricter environmental regulations.
The (Washington) Observer-Reporter says company president James Lash told state House members Thursday that no potential buyers have come forward for the Mitchell Power Station in Washington County or the Hatfields Ferry Power Station in Greene County.

No coal, no electricity, no oil, no wood stoves.
They're doing it on purpose.
And we're supposed to believe in the good intentions of the government?

Yup. Raise them prices so we can all get some sort of subsidies once the govt re-opens for business. Whenever that will be. I’m sure king hussein suck up ben aflack will help us pay for our heating costs. He and other “celebrities”.

“Heckuva job, Barry!!”
Well, as I recall, Pennsylvania went for Barry. So, guess it could be said that Pennsylvanians got what they voted for? Or, to quote Barry himself, “elections have consequences”.....

The coal that would be firing these plants is being sold to China instead, where they have Zero pollution controls. Nice work, EPA. At least at these Pennsylvania plants, the CO and SO2 levels would have been minimized.

So what I want to know now is the areas of Penn that these two plants served? Will this mean electrical capacity for Pittsburgh or Philadelphia will be impacted? Are Dems gonna freeze over this? Will they burn up in the summer heat? Or has Obama’s EPA already worked it out so that doesn’t affect the right-minded parts of that state?

I think they’re counting on the 10 windmills they built not far on Chestnut Ridge to make up for the coal plants.

The beautiful irony here is that Richard Trumka, Pres. of the AFL-CIO, started life as a low grade flunky in the UMWA in Greene County, PA.
Trumka is the biggest phoney on the planet as he throws his brothers under the obama bus to further his own disgusting career.

It’s not an overhaul that’s needed. It’s a revolution.

So what I want to know now is the areas of Penn that these two plants served?Electricity moves around the grid basically everything east of the mississippi is interconnected, and plants in one area can serve consumers in another (subject to a "wheeling charge" for using the intermediate power co's transmission grid) This means more revenue for Ontario hydro (which ironically generates most of its electricity from nuclear plants) Canada has long been one of the most shrill voices about pollution from coal (mainly because they have nuclear and hydro power capacity to sell)
