"The farm was allowed to stay open in 1995 during the last government shutdown. Eberly said the closure had already cost the farm $20,000, and if it didnt re-open soon, it would never open again."

Why wouldn’t they just open anyway? Who is going to stop them? Is President Obama going to send federal agents to shut them down? Unlikely. So long as they’re not spending any federal money or obligating the government to pay something (which would be illegal), why not just open up?
Some people aren’t to the stage of open defiance... yet.
if it receives no government funding, why is it shut?
Odumby wants to hurt as many business people as he can during this shut down. He knows that a shut down hurts his base more than the working sucessful people in the USA. He wants as many working people to feel the pain as he can.
The barricades went up on Monday. The Park Police are keeping them from opening, because the farm exists on park land. The staff is staying onsite while the shutdown endures.
Great examples of this crowd not knowing their limits. “They” also put up barackades at Mt Vernon’s parking lot, effectively making it appear closed and closing it to the public although it, too, is privately owned.
The Park Service did eventually take the barackades down because, it seems, they “didn’t know” that MV isn’t federal property. I’m sure they think *everything* is federal government property
Our daughter used to volunteer @ Claude Moore when she was in Middle School, early high school. Even got to be the “farm wife.” Great learning experience for volunteers and visitors.
It appears the government sent police to shutdown the farm. It seems to me the farm could have a winning legal case here. Doesn’t the farm have a lease? What’s the lease say? Do they have a legal right to do business on the property? If so, go to a judge for a temporary injunction allowing the farm to stay open. Sue the government for lost revenue! Fight!
It’s to teach us a lesson. Take our medicine and accept o-care like good little surfs. Then...we can get back to our leisure.
All your farm are belong to us!
They may not even have to openly defy the order. They MUST have some sort of legal document giving them a right to use the property. I’m curious what that document states. Do you think it actually allows the park service to shut the farm down at any time for any reason with no notice? I hope not.
Federal agents showed up at the farm on Tuesday and escorted them off of the lands of the national park. So to answer your question, they already did.
Faster than they sent help to our men in Benghazi!
“... if it didnt re-open soon, it would never open again.”
That’s ObOzo’s plan.
jimpick: “Odumby wants to hurt as many business people as he can during this shut down.”
Yep. I think that’s the goal. It’s the same reason why police and firefighters are the first penalized when we try to restrain the growth of local or state governments. The Democrats try to make the cuts as painful as possible for political gain. What fun would it be to cut things that people don’t even notice, eh?
The managing director stated “We are critical of the National Park Service because we think they have closed us down illegally according to the terms of the agreement we signed with them in 1981. The agreement states that we will operate the Farm and open it to the public and the only thing they will provide is police protection if needed.”
I believe they are exploring all avenues.
So the feds own the land, but provide no funds for upkeep, but they are paying NPS police to go out and shut it down. If it remains closed, because the owners are no longer able to run it, does that mean that the NPS would take it over and run it? If they do, no one should ever visit the place again. Let the rangers sit out there all day by themselves.
That would be a shame, because it looks like a nice place that provides good historical education and activities, and is definitely a place I would visit if I were in the area.
Actions like this one, if continued, just might finally convince the average voter (Dem, GOP, or Ind) that government badly needs reining in.
Comments like “I have never worked with a more arrogant, arbitrary and vindictive group representing the NPS..” are instructive.
I think the administration is well on the way to jumping the shark in this shutdown.
Precisely. Rip down the barricades (stack them up and burn them). Let the Feds show up, proving they do have people working. If they don’t show up, then its also win.
Civil disobedience needs to be coming into play.
