I would highly suggest to ALL FReepers to call their congress-bedwetters and tell them to have those ARMED gaurds removed from those places!!!
This is not a request, this is a demand!!! We expect this to happen TODAY!!!
I can understand the closing of museums and other facilities that require controlled access and tickets to enter...If they shut those down, thats the cost of doing business, and it doesn’t effect us that much...
But these open monuments, Lincoln, Jefferson, Washington (perimeter), the Mall, Vietnam and WWII memorials need to be open and unobstructed, and I mean right now...
Enough of this candy-ass BS!!!

BTW, while I have madde the rounds in the Texas congressional delegation, I have been hearing a common response...
“These armed guards are not enforcing these access restrictions...”
Then friggin’ remove them, and all traces of those barriers TODAY!!!
I did get a call into McCall’s office concerning if there was any Homeland Security issues with the “shutdown”...If that was somehow justification to restrict access to these open facilities...
There response was no...The Congressman is the chair of that committee (which I already knew)...
So I reiterated my expectations...Before the sun goes down today, remove all visible barriers and personnel who were originally assigned to keep folks out of those places, and re-tak them or send them home!!!
I believe this is a reasonable expectation and one that is probably not mine alone...
Light up these people, this is just about as important as the other mismanagement corrections that need to be made up there right now...
The chairman of the Department of Homeland Security has stated that there is no threat to the security in and around these memorials...
His office stated that the congressman will be at the WWII memorial to greet/escort another Honor Flight of Veterans this weekend, and that a few of those folks are constituents of his...
I told them the “reasonable” expectations, and if they cannot find personnel, and pay, for the removal of those barriers (that may or may not be set aside, let a few of us know...I’ll be glad to come up and remove them myself...And hopefully with a few other folks as well...My truck can only haul off a few at a time...;-)
The rage I feel about this is paletable, I could almost spit...I’ll stop posting for a while and step off...I should go cool off and have some lunch...
Some people wil just not understand how basic, how fundamental, how deep some people feel about this country, and if we let them get away with these psuedo-antics, it will continue un-abated...I would like to minimise the occurances very much so...
