COLLEYVILLE The clinic under construction in Colleyville has all the trappings of an ordinary doctor's office. But Dr. Kevin Wacasey is planning something revolutionary here. Hes offering what he says is truly affordable health care. "It's a cash clinic," Dr. Wacasey said. "That's just like it used to be in the good old days back before managed care took over."

Absolutely. And that is exactly the plan you’ll hear from almost any doc who is seeing patients every day, as opposed to an MD who has escaped practice to work for the AMA. High deductible catastrophic coverage and an HSA and paying for the tracking office visit the way you pay for a haircut— is the simple answer. But simple is rarely easy. And these horrid people have no real interest in solving a problem. They actually want to introduce chaos and misery and upheaval. You’re trying, as rush would say, to wake up someone who is only pretending to be asleep.
Tracking=fracking
well said
not really... the doctor orders in bulk and says he is competitive with walmart pricing... per the hannity interview... on some drugs... insurance companies are liking the idea too.

I can see insurance for catastrophic diseases, but only with deductibles of $5000 or so. Any other health insurance is subsidizing unnecessary tests, insurance company profits, and the medical profession following the insurance companies guidelines, which are not always in my best interest.
18 years ago, my wife gave birth with insurance that didn’t cover birthin’ no babies.... when we got the bill for 12,000 big ones, she called the doctor and asked why it was so much and that we didn’t have insurance.... she incredulously then said $5,000, which would have been reasonable, but then hung up saying the doctor settled for 3000... i told her to call her back and see how low we could get it...
it pays to call.

Good! Glad to hear it. We also need to be mindful on the apples-to-apples comparisons, such as, your monthly cost may indeed go down, but your deductible is high or out-of-pocket is $12,000. Shell game and bait-and-switch. Also, any bets on how many plans will be dissolved in 2014 - how about MOST of them?
No, I’m in another specialty but I partner with PCP and endocrinologists. Could they shut it all down? Yes. Will they? Probably not anytime soon because this would just add to the burden they must deal with in obamacare. However, I know we will lose some cash patients who don’t want to both pay out of pocket and through obamacare. For those, we’ll have to switch them to insurance/obamacare rather than lose them altogether. However, they need to realize that cash still means you and your doctor choose the care, and obamacare means someone in govt chooses for you.
Well it is a good idea to save money for a rainy day no matter what form that rain might take. It is something of a great misfortune that The government only makes more difficult such generalized savings.
There are two reasons why Government and/or liberals favors 3rd(or 2nd) party management of such costs and thus makes more difficult personal responsibility.
1: There is a great element of social & political control you can weld over a population once you control their savings, and health insurance like any other form of insurance is very much like a savings plan to which they can petulant attach an ever growing list of strings & costs.
2: A lot of people particular liberals are not responsible, and tend to put themselves in a runt, so Liberals classically want to take from someone else who invariably was prudent to bail them out, and theses people either out of desperation or simple greed gladly sell their vote to support such thief. The ironic end result is you savings & personal responsibility becomes all the more difficult and you end up with more people living in the government dependent rut.
People at your age have been living with this problem all your lives, if you have managed to save for a rainy day you have done so in-spite of the government.
Actually, one of the most predictable side effects of a totalitarian economic model is the unavoidable formation of black markets. This in turn results in more draconian efforts at control, which in turn results in “nothing to lose” resistance movements that can be quite effective. So, while there may be great pain in the process, totalitarian economies are ultimately self-destructive. Long live black markets.
