“Cost the GOP what? Favor with the media? Are their friends in the democratic party going start saying bad things about them? Will they start missing invitations to bar mitzvahs?
They sure the hell won’t win any votes by caving. The way I see it, the GOP has nothing left to lose. They won’t stand for anything that matters anymore.”

For starters I think it will cost them seats in Blue & Purple states. Which, in case you haven’t noticed, there are more of than there were 8 years ago.

The Tea Party wants to choose this as the hill to die on. It’s not going to be winnable. Even coservatives like Tom Coburn says it’s not.

In the end the GOP will cave, the Dems get what they want, and get to hang this shutdown around the neck of the GOP like a bell.
I wonder what damage a Dem Senate, House and WH can inflict on the 2nd ammendment in 2015.

I know it’s not a popular opinion here at FR, but we seem to be in an echo chamber. Typical voters aren’t going to see Obama and the Dems as being at fault.

It’s too late to change course now, so thhe best the GOP can do is to really not cave. They’not going to do that because the political fallout will be catastrophic.

Ted Cruz pushed the GOPe into a fight that they can’t possibly win.

It may already be too late. Cruz actually reinvigorated my passion for this country and gave me a glimmer of hope. I don't know what you think we should wait for. But if it's another election you are hoping will change course and rid of us Obamacare, well then, Sir, you are delusional.

During the next election cycle (NEXT YEAR) the campaigns will be about who would tweak what if elected. We are bleeding out now as a nation. I fear we have already lost the country by the simple number of people now dependent on government for their livelihoods. This country will not likely EVER see another economic boom. Government will NEVER get much (if any) smaller than it is today. So I think, if this isn't winnable in some fashion that at least sets up another fight, all is lost and I'm out.

For me, this is about the last fight I care to be vocal about. After that, I will not vote for GOP unless they are conservative at any level of government. I'll sit and be quiet until it's time to either move my family ahead of some state secession or I have to take up arms in a revolution.

I do hope someone can convince me otherwise. I want to believe. I want something better for my kids. But we have already adjusted how we are raising them to succeed in this new America. 1) They have to go into the military or get a Federal job at some point in their lives so they always have that on their record. 2) Take every single advantage of every government program you can. 3) Hide your wealth. 4) Never have debt. 5) Deal in cash and report only what you have to.

(Obviously being a good Christian goes ahead of all)

What is your plan for ridding of us Obamacare and reducing the size and scope of government? You're answer better not be, "Win the House, Senate and Executive Branch."

Glossing over a lot...

In your scenario the GOPe can ‘win’ with a delay of ANY sort in the Obamacare rollout, sequester level funding, and a reasonable debt limit deal.

It’ll take more than that for a ‘win’ for conservatives, of course.

But the GOPe are in great shape. That’s all very doable, heck many Dems would like that.
