Now 18 House Republicans Are Ready to Throw in the Towel in Obamacare Fight [Title Shortened]
The Blaze ^ | October 2, 2013 | Jason Howerton

There are now reportedly a total of 18 House Republicans ready to throw in the towel in the current battle over Obamacare in order to end the first government shutdown in 17 years. As TheBlaze reported on Tuesday, Democrats needs just 17 GOP lawmakers to defect from the majority of Republicans in the House to pass a “clean” continuing resolution that fully funds both Obamacare and the federal government.

And every single one of them voted against doing it today.

“5:50:18 P.M. H.J. Res. 70 Mr. Van Hollen moved to recommit with instructions to Appropriations.
5:50:19 P.M. H.J. Res. 70 DEBATE - The House proceeded with 10 minutes of debate on the Van Hollen motion to recommit with instructions, pending a reservation of a point of order. The instructions contained in the motion seek to require the bill to be reported back to the House with an amendment to replace the underlying bill with the Senate Amendment to H.J. Res. 59.
5:54:20 P.M. H.J. Res. 70 Mr. Simpson raised a point of order against the motion to recommit with instructions. Mr. Simpson stated that the provisions of the proposed amendment are not germane to the Joint Resolution. Sustained by the Chair.
6:02:36 P.M. H.J. Res. 70 Mr. Van Hollen appealed the ruling of the chair. The question was then put on sustaining the ruling of the chair.
6:02:47 P.M. H.J. Res. 70 Mr. Simpson moved to table the motion to appeal the ruling of the Chair.
6:29:33 P.M. H.J. Res. 70 On motion to table the appeal of the ruling of the Chair Agreed to by the Yeas and Nays: 230 - 194 (Roll no. 512). “
NONE of them voted with the Dems.

They’re having it both ways now, and that will continue as long as they do whatever Boehner tells them to do.

Idiotic fear mongering for ratings...which will no doubt trigger idiotic chicken little posts here on fr.

I see no such thing. It's business as usual here, FRiend.

As usual, Republicans are starting to buckle. Conservatives just need to shore up the weak part of our line. Just moving soldiers to where they are needed.

I know it’s not a popular opinion here but I think this is going to really cost the GOP.

Cost the GOP what? Favor with the media? Are their friends in the democratic party going start saying bad things about them? Will they start missing invitations to bar mitzvahs?

They sure the hell won't win any votes by caving. The way I see it, the GOP has nothing left to lose. They won't stand for anything that matters anymore.

The GOP didn’t cave. Look at Post #61 for the votes today.

The whole article from the idiotic Blaze for this thread is nothing but hype for the gullible to drum up ratings for two-bit hacks.

Anyone who thinks that the GOP caved today, or will cave, isn’t paying attention and just wants to be a Chicken Little attention whore.

“The zip code entered indicates that you reside outside the 13th Congressional District of Florida. Due to the large volume of US mail, emails and faxes I receive, I am only able to accept messages from residents of the 13th District.”

Google the 13th district and pick an address.

I’m really proud of our Senators in Indiana Coats (Conservative) Donnelly (not sure) but not on list.

Donnelly is a Democrat. Remember, we primarried Lugar and then the conservative stuck all three feet in his mouth and farted in church?

Coats is up for election, however. Call him and remind him. I've called and e-mailed them both. I have talked to people in Donnelly's office. He is for Obamacare and proudly.

FOUR are from VA??

Four of the richest 6 zip codes are around DC (in VA and MD). Don't be surprised that pseudo-Republicans (whose constituents regularly feed at the government's teat) feel pressure now that government workers are furloughed.

"Republican courage" is an oxymoron of the same level as "Democrat integrity"...

It’s possible these pubbies said they’d vote for the “clean” bill if that’s what the majority of Republicans decided to do. They may just have been saying they’d be willing to go along with whatever the caucus decides. It doesn’t necessarily mean they’d buck their party to vote that way.

Who would oust him?

Certainly not the RINO’s who are caving in.

Certainly not the Democrats who love his incompetence.

Anyone who thinks that the GOP caved today, or will cave,

I hope you are right. But the track record of late doesn't support it. I hope the government stays shut down until 1) Obamacare is history or 2) we have to elect a new president.

I never said anybody caved YET. But I am not holding my breath yet. I don't see Republicans out there attacking the dems and president for this. AND THEY SHOULD BE. I get the feeling they all have sweaty palms and dry mouths about this.

There is no upside to caving.

Heck, even the **DEMOCRATS** want the shutdown to go on until October 14th so that they can try to combine the debt hike with the budget negotiation!

This shutdown won’t be the short, quick cave that the attention whores were all promising everyone.

Next time I hear that radio ad of the guy challenging Simpson in the primary, you can bet I’ll be paying closer attention. Time to go, Mike.

That's what I've been saying. The GOP is now in for a penny, in for a pound. This is now the last hill we have to hold. If they lose this battle, they won't be picking up seats anywhere.

For starters I think it will cost them seats in Blue & Purple states. Which, in case you haven’t noticed, there are more of than there were 8 years ago.

The Tea Party wants to choose this as the hill to die on. It’s not going to be winnable. Even coservatives like Tom Coburn says it’s not.

In the end the GOP will cave, the Dems get what they want, and get to hang this shutdown around the neck of the GOP like a bell.
I wonder what damage a Dem Senate, House and WH can inflict on the 2nd ammendment in 2015.

I know it’s not a popular opinion here at FR, but we seem to be in an echo chamber. Typical voters aren’t going to see Obama and the Dems as being at fault.

It’s too late to change course now, so thhe best the GOP can do is to really not cave. They’not going to do that because the political fallout will be catastrophic.

Ted Cruz pushed the GOPe into a fight that they can’t possibly win.

It may already be too late. Cruz actually reinvigorated my passion for this country and gave me a glimmer of hope. I don't know what you think we should wait for. But if it's another election you are hoping will change course and rid of us Obamacare, well then, Sir, you are delusional.

During the next election cycle (NEXT YEAR) the campaigns will be about who would tweak what if elected. We are bleeding out now as a nation. I fear we have already lost the country by the simple number of people now dependent on government for their livelihoods. This country will not likely EVER see another economic boom. Government will NEVER get much (if any) smaller than it is today. So I think, if this isn't winnable in some fashion that at least sets up another fight, all is lost and I'm out.

For me, this is about the last fight I care to be vocal about. After that, I will not vote for GOP unless they are conservative at any level of government. I'll sit and be quiet until it's time to either move my family ahead of some state secession or I have to take up arms in a revolution.

I do hope someone can convince me otherwise. I want to believe. I want something better for my kids. But we have already adjusted how we are raising them to succeed in this new America. 1) They have to go into the military or get a Federal job at some point in their lives so they always have that on their record. 2) Take every single advantage of every government program you can. 3) Hide your wealth. 4) Never have debt. 5) Deal in cash and report only what you have to.

(Obviously being a good Christian goes ahead of all)

What is your plan for ridding of us Obamacare and reducing the size and scope of government? You're answer better not be, "Win the House, Senate and Executive Branch."

“Looks like the GOP is winning.”

It’s the second day.
Already Repubs from Blue & Purple states are peeling off.
Obamacare is not going to be repealed, and it’s not going to be defunded.

Cooler heads said before this started there was no way to win.

I understand that Freepers like firebreathers like Ted Cruz and Sarah Palin but breathing fire and chest thumping isn’t going to get Obama or the Dems to back off on the centerpiece of his 2 terms as president.

Obama has time & numbers on his side. The Blue state Repuds are already going wobbly.
