There is absolutely, positively no reason to have iPads in a school.

Catholic schools here in Indiana have used them for several years with good results. I assume they are a cost savings because these schools are always strapped for budget.

Now I fully realize they have a different level of personal responsibility and discipline for their students.

You are 100% correct. You can’t even type on an iPad! How this is a learning tool is beyond me!

I can see some reasoning behind it, but I can’t believe it actually got out of the small focus committee that first reviewed the idea.

There are massive problem to be overcome here.

We often talk about kids not having accountability, but the whole system has no accountability.

It seems to be utter chaos at these schools.

Let me ask you this. If the cost of books and reference materials over four years were going to cost the school $2,000 dollars, would it be worth it to buy a $700 iPad and pay $500 for the electronic versions of the books?

If those iPads could then be used for electronic testing and other classroom instructional applications, would that make it an easier sale?

If this gave the teachers a way to communicate with the kids too, say to answer questions about homework without having to interrupt the class to do it, would that be helpful?

I can see some reasoning behind this. I still don’t think it’s workable.

EGGSACTLY Batman.

The Cheapest Kindle makes sense if you go with the Student Text eBook Plan some are using because the cost is waaaaaaay less than buying Dead Tree Media Books.

A 700 dollar iPad makes no sense whatsoever.

FTA:

Before the draconian repossession, administrators had attempted to ban students from using the iPads off of school grounds, thus defeating the point of having the devices, which are intended as supplemental learning tools.

Duh!!! Isn't one of the main advantages of issuing iPads or similar devices to students enabling them to have their text books on those devices instead of having to cart the physical books around? Indeed one of the main savings to be generated by such devices is eliminating physical books and the costs associated wiht the physical books.
