A New York City man who was out driving Sunday celebrating his first wedding anniversary with his wife and 2-year-old daughter was brutally beaten by members of a motorcycle gang in front of his horrified family after a high-speed chase.
Police said Tuesday morning it remains unclear what caused the confrontation that led to the assault on Alexian Lien. Lien, 33, was left bloodied and had to be hospitalized. But investigators are studying a 6-minute helmet-cam video that shows part of the chase and cuts off just before Lien is pulled out of his luxury SUV and beaten by the mob, The New York Post reported.
NYPD confirmed that there has been one arrest. Christopher Cruz, 28, was charged with reckless endangerment, menacing, reckless driving and acting in a manner injurious to a child less than 17.
Liens first encounter with the bikers shows a group of them taking off their helmets and denting the side of Liens SUV, Police Commissioner Ray Kelly told The Post. A few other riders slashed the tires. Lien apparently panicked and stepped on the gas. He was surrounded at the time and slammed into a few of the riders, the report said.

Had a guy riding a Harley do that to me once in Dallas of all places. He was in the far left lane and cut strongly across to get in front of me in the far right lane. We were in stop and go for a few minutes. Then at one go point he hit his brakes right after starting to move. Caused me to slam the brakes after stating to move and barely miss hitting him. Got the impression he did it on purpose. Of course I was driving a rental car with California plates, so maybe that had something to do with it.
Apparently there was a provocation with a cyclist cutting him off and then his
bumping the rear tire of the cycle. Who knows for sure.
Here is an article from the NY Daily News with several photos;

The biker's rear tire struck the SUV front bumper.
To answer a couple of geography questions:
They were on the West Side Highway, which is indeed part of NYC.
The West Side Highway doesn’t have stop lights but everyone in Manhattan thinks in terms of blocks not miles. It might have been more accurate to say they went “the equivalent of” 50 blocks.
50 blocks in Manhattan = 2.5 miles.
2.5 miles at 75 MPH is about two minutes.
It looks like he turned off the West Side Highway into normal city traffic, where the final attack occurred.
They did.
ie Trayvons ... in search of a fatal gunshot wound.
What a FANTASTIC idea! I wonder why no big city has tried that yet!
;-)
The victim appears to be of Asian descent.
The ones arrested were Jose’s. Read it was a Dominican bike club, which could include blacks. If you watch all the tapes it is obvious they were out to cause trouble for people, riding on wrong side of road, sidewalks and running red lights. And somehow this small Asian dude decided to take on a hundred or so of these bikers.
I saw that.
FWIW I use the epithet ‘Trayvons’ as a synonym for thugs not a synonym for blacks.
How does a violent chase involving 30 motorcycles go 50 blocks in NYC without some sort of Police intervention?
Easy one. the family didn’t have a dog for them to shoot. Nor were there any donuts in the suv.
brakes right after starting to move
as a biker did you actually see him brake or in a case I had the bike stalled just as I was starting to move causing me to stop. to which I was able to start again and take off. There were no brake lights till I stopped to restart.
Possible, but the fact that he went way out of his way to get in front of me, made me a little suspicious.
Black on Asian. Bad news.
Disarmed slave state of NYC. Bad news.
I am starting to carry high-capacity mags in my car now...
“How does a violent chase involving 30 motorcycles go 50 blocks in NYC without some sort of Police intervention?”
Good question. I’m hearing different things about this, so like some other people I’m reserving judgement on it until I have more of a full story. Knowing the area, I have to wonder why he chose one of the worst places to pull over, at any time of day, and why he didn’t drive directly to a police station (although maybe that’s what he was in the process of doing, to the only station he knew?).
At the start of one tape I watched it appears the bikers are holding up traffic, maybe so once the traffic has moved down the road they can drive really fast. It does show the driver running over a few bikes and bikers, however if they put him in fear for his safety and that of his family I say he should have run over a few more of them.
I’ll bet the bikers were black.....
