MSNBC Anchor Unable to Sign Up For Obamacare Health Exchange By Matthew Sheffield Created 10/01/2013 - 12:25pm
Even as Politico and others are urging the public to overlook some of the many flaws in the Obamacare health insurance exchanges which just opened up today, MSNBC anchor Mara Schiavocampo is not playing along with the spin game.
Early this morning on First Look, Schiavocampo took viewers along with her as she filed a report on her experience trying to sign up for an exchange. It was an exercise in frustration as she soon found.
As the video below demonstrates, Schiavocampo experienced numerous errors on the exchanges website and she spent about 20 minutes on the phone trying to talk to anyone to get help with her situation.
After waiting that long, Schiavocampo decided to give up: If I were signing up for myself, this is where my patience would be exhausted, she said.
Kudos to Schiavocampo for proving that one can indeed get some actual journalism at MSNBC instead of Obama Administration public relations pap.
I bet in the end there will hardly anyone sign up because they will give up on the process when it just get more confusing.
Boy, did Obama miss a bet on not taking the one-year delay offered by the Repubs. Sounds like he’ll end up delaying it for a year anyway just to work out the bugs.
“Uh, on second thought, guys, I’d like to announce I’ve heard that the American public wants some more time and out of the goodness of my heart I will extend the deadline...”
I’m laughing with you, not at you. Working with the average Indian (from India) on any customer “service” problem is like having a deep root canal without anesthesia. We are of one mind.
Nobody can sign up under the health insurance “exchanges” that were supposed to be up and operating today.
There was an exchange all right. The view of the future was exchanged for a handful of dross, fools’ gold, magic beans and pixie dust.
You can’t fix stupid. But you are not required to submit to it, either.
It is our higher moral duty to resist unjust laws. Sure, there are consequences, just as there were for the people who defied the Jim Crow laws throughout many parts of the “Old Confederacy”, in that you may get your head beaten, or end up incarcerated.
But those laws got repealed, didn’t they?
Civil disobedience works.. Look at the example of Mahatma Gandhi and the drive for independence in India.
“In matters of conscience, the law of the majority has no place.”

Thanks Susan. I was told healthcare is now free?
[1:55:09 pm]: Susan
Thank you for your question today. I will be happy to assist you with providing information about the cost of insurance through the Marketplace. One moment please.
[1:56:59 pm]: Susan
Premium amounts are available at HealthCare.gov. There are Marketplace plans to fit just about every need and budget. Some plans have lower monthly premiums and may charge you more out-of-pocket when you need care. Some are higher-premium plans that cover more of your expenses when you need care, and other plans are in the middle.
And don’t forget, when you use the Marketplace you may be able to get lower costs on monthly premiums or lower out-of-pocket expenses, or you may get free or low-cost coverage. When you fill out your Marketplace application, you will find out how much you can save. Most people who apply will qualify for lower costs of some kind. You need to enroll in coverage and make your first premium payment on or before December 15, 2013, for health coverage to start on January 1, 2014.
You can fill out an application or look at premium amounts at HealthCare.gov. I can also help you fill out an application or compare the estimated premium amounts of Marketplace plans in your area.

I don’t understand, I was told my healthcare would now be free. Your saying there is actually cost involved? I thought the government was paying for my healthcare?!!!
I do not believe that Obamacare was ever designed to “work”. It was designed to create an unworkable mess and to destroy the existing system, believing that they would then leverage a single payer system from the ashes.
Or perhaps they don’t want people to find out how much it will cost them.
Remember, large amounts of people are expecting a check every month from Obamacare.

I apologize for the misunderstanding. You may be able to apply for Medicaid in your state. What state do you reside in?
[2:04:30 pm]: pat
PA
[2:06:09 pm]: Susan
Medicaid is a state-administered program that provides health coverage for certain lower- income people, families, children, the elderly, and people with disabilities. Medicaid is available in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, and U.S. territories. You may qualify for Medicaid now, and even if you do not, you may qualify if your state expands its Medicaid program in 2014. Even if you don’t qualify for Medicaid, your children may be eligible for coverage under your state’s Children’s Health Insurance Program.
Medicaid programs differ from state to state. All state Medicaid programs must cover certain basic health care services. However, many states offer additional services beyond those basic health care services. The additional services covered by Medicaid vary from state to state.
Medicaid is designed to be affordable. Depending on your state’s rules, you may have to pay a small part of the cost for some medical services.
The Affordable Care Act allows states to cover more people by changing their Medicaid income eligibility levels. While many states have adopted new eligibility levels, some states have not made a final decision to do so. As such, Medicaid eligibility may vary from state to state. In every state, consumers may apply for Medicaid through the Marketplace or their existing state Medicaid program. For more information about your state’s Medicaid program, please contact your state’s Medicaid office.
[2:07:25 pm]: Susan
Hours of operation vary by state, however, most Medicaid offices are open during normal business hours of 08:00 am - 05:00 pm. You may reach them at (800) 692-7462.
[2:09:17 pm]: Susan
If you enroll in a plan through the Marketplace, you may qualify to lower the costs of your monthly premiums or out-of-pocket expenses. Additionally, you may qualify for Medicaid or the Children’s Health Insurance Program, also known as CHIP, which are state programs that offer free or low-cost health insurance.
You may also qualify to lower the costs of your monthly premiums right away. When you fill out a Marketplace application, you’ll find out if you qualify for lower costs. You can then decide how much you would like to use.
Besides lower premiums, you may qualify to lower costs through a cost-sharing reduction, which lowers your out-of-pocket costs by calculating a reduced amount that you would owe. These reductions apply to deductibles, coinsurance, and copayments. You need to enroll in coverage and make your first premium payment on or before December 15, 2013, for health coverage to start on January 1, 2014.
[2:10:33 pm]: Susan
As the information states, once you apply, you will be able to find out what costs you are eligible for.
India tech support would be superior to what we’re actually going to have.
Imagine 100,000 Rachel Jaentels answering the phones.
[2:14:59 pm]: Susan
Thank you for your questions today. Is there anything else I can assist you with?
[2:15:34 pm]: pat
Will I be able to obtain a subsidy since I now realize I will have to pay?
[2:22:58 pm]: Susan
Thanks again, have a good day.
It only took an hour to reach the inevitable end. That was from https://healthcare.gov/chat
I still flinch and grit my teeth each time I remember watching that injury.
