Shutdown showdown hits brink as Senate kills House spending bill

The Senate voted Monday afternoon to kill House Republicans’ latest stopgap spending offer, holding firm in their demand that Congress continue to fund Obamacare as part of any government-funding debate.

The 54-46 vote officially tabled both proposals the House GOP passed early Sunday morning, one of which would have funded the government while delaying the health law for a year, and the other of which would have repealed one of the Affordable Care Act’s tax increases.

The House sent a bill to the Senate to just fund the military. The Senate refuses to act on it. At least last I knew.

Dirty rats.

Congress needs to break up the CR and start sending it up piece by piece. Send up the DOD part first.

They can hold EPA, Edumacation, and HHS for dead last. We don't need them anyhow.

Good point and not to be contentious but I didn’t say vote them out. The corruption we’ve allowed in our political structure has obviously corrupted our voting system as well and in the process of Americans cleaning up political corruption, we can reform our voting system too. This government has gone rogue and the only way to fix it is to dismantle all of it and rebuild it under the laws of the original constitution and its 10 amendments. At this point, it is either that or we can all expect the degree of government enslavement to get substantially worse. Tyrants grow ever stronger the longer they remain in control.

Are you really so sure that the DOD doesn’t get funded anyhow? It is my understanding that only non-essential government departments don’t get funded at the same level they already are at the present (i.e. park services, fishing and wildlife, a few others). Most affected in a shutdown are so miniscule in scope that hardly anyone will even notice it.

Hell the sequester hurt the military more than this if I understand it correctly.

Don’t blame the Republicans, FRiend.

The Republicans passed a plan to fund everything except Obamacare, just like the Congress has funded everything except the BORDER fence the past few years.

Didn’t the HoR do that by putting in a separate resolution to fund the military and the Senate decided not to take it up?</s>

I have avoided listening to this this year because it seems to happen every year. So...what exactly does this mean? Will they shut down the gob’t for sure now?

Absolutely. The longer the oligarchy stays in place, the stronger it gets. My concern is, have they already been there long enough to be permanently attached?

And even IF we find the will to dismantle the oligarchy, what method do we dare to use?

I doubt it. And, yes, it happens every year! They don’t do their jobs and expect us to feel sorry for them. Not. going. to. happen.

They get paid more than most everyday Americans who hired them and take more vacations too. Bunch of spoiled, stupid brats who probably couldn’t get a real job if they were starving. At least I know Mark Pryor couldn’t!

Here’s the solution...add to the next bill that if any part of Obamacare is delayed it’s delayed for everyone UNLESS congress authorizes the delay.
