House to tie debt ceiling hike to one-year ObamaCare delay, Keystone approval
The Hill ^ | September 25, 2013 | Peter Schroeder and Erik Wasson

House Republicans plan to tie an increase in the $16.7 trillion debt ceiling to a a broad GOP wish list that includes delaying ObamaCare for a full year.

The House Republican wish list circulating on K Street also indicates the GOP also hopes to kickstart tax reform, permit the Keystone XL pipeline and trim a slew of federal regulations in exchange for a borrowing boost.

The move to the debt ceiling comes as Congress moves toward a possible government shutdown on Oct. 1. Moving to the debt ceiling fight, which Republican leaders have long seen as stronger ground, could be a way to convince rank-and-fil Republicans to fight their spending and healthcare battles there rather than on a government-funding bill.

The list, obtained from a K Street source, indicates that Republicans would agree to hike the borrowing limit through 2014, but only in exchange for a host of previously stalled GOP priorities likely to be met with hot opposition from Democrats and the White House......

Exactly. This will never get repealed if we delay it. The people need to have their noses rubbed in it.

A delay is what the dimoKKKRATS want to get through the 2014 election. Either don’t fund it or let it be implemented now. I can’t believe what is happening.

Wimps never win, how can they not see this?

They don’t want to win? Lazy? They don’t want to win and have to work for the constituents?

So they think the country will be just fine in the hands of democrats?

They need to get rid of obamacare

Jeez. Not this s___t again.

The House leadership will choose to do the worst possible action, as usual. The correct approach is stand strong, and then stand down and let the Democrats own this monstrosity again for 2014 and 2016. Delay lets the Dems off the hook for 2014 and will be spun as ‘Democrats’ compromising to meet demands. We lose all around, both in policy and politically. It also will go further to make this unpopular law permanent.

LOL. You are assuming that the Obamabots in the Senate will take the deal.

Not a chance.

And not that I disagree with your nose rubbing approach. Americans are going to experience that in spades.

Yours is the “money post” of this thread! Obamacare is going to be “implemented” irrespective of the GOP, and that’s a good thing. I just hope it turns out to be even more painful to the LIV’s than even the work scenarios predict. If the LIV’s think the last five years have not been good to them, just wait until they have to dig down for poor-quality health insurance.

I do not think defunding ObamaCare at this time is a permanent fix on ObamaCare. The only way to permanently fix ObamaCAre is to repeal it.

A defund is not a repeal.

A delay is not a repeal.

Defunding is better than delaying.

Delaying is better than implementing.

My only opposition to a delay is that I prefer it be defunded. A delay is not a defeat. It is a temporary victory.

It is time for hardball politics. No compromise, take no prisoners. The Democrats always fight dirty - we should grab them by the ears and kick them in the balls. Let the revolt begin! Do not accept Communism!!!

(hello, CW. We haven't been on a common discussion for years, back when we were discussing whether Steve Forbes or Dan Quayle would've been the better nominee. We were both right <^..^>)

I don't trust delaying something. But this might be different. What Cruz just did was effective. People are listening, about everything. It's possible that in the next year a lot of bills can be passed and maybe something can happen in the courts.

I haven't seem better reality TV since John Dean at the Watergate hearings. Maybe Cruz didn't win the cloture vote, but it just might've been a game changer in DC.

Agree. Which is why ALL entitlements need to be defunded and then repealed.

Social security, Medicare, Medicaid need to be gone immediately. If the R’s are smart and presented a bill doing that, it would force the D’s into negotiations and at MINIMUM Obamacare would be gone

The delay should take effect until AFTER the Nov 2014 midterm elections, right? The idea being that Repubs keep the House and take the Senate and then kill 0bamacare all together. King Zero wouldn’t sign such an order though. Opposition to 0’care would grow to epic levels, hopefully.
