WAVY, the NBC affiliate in Hampton Roads, Virginia asks “has zero tolerance gone too far?” as it reports this story:
A suspended seventh grade Virginia Beach student will find out soon if he is expelled for the rest of the year for shooting an airsoft gun.
Like thousands of others in Hampton Roads, Khalid Caraballo plays with airsoft guns. Caraballo and his friend Aidan were suspended because they shot two other friends who were with them while playing with the guns as they waited for the school bus.
The two seventh graders say they never went to the bus stop; they fired the airsoft guns while on Caraballo's private property.
Aidan’s father, Tim Clark, told WAVY.com what happened next lacks commons sense. The children were suspended for possession, handling and use of a firearm. The “fire” in firearm, of course, refers to gunpowder, which a pellet gun doesn’t have. Six children were playing in the Caraballo front yard all together, and the school suspended three it said had discharged the “firearm” near the school bus stop. The school found out about the kids playing around because a neighbor, the mother of one of the children not suspended, called 911. WAVY tracked her down:

The mother who called 911 needs to be publicly flogged. The principle who suspended the boys needs to also be publicly flogged.

Another thread on this quotes a letter from the school, that the boys shot other children at the bus stop with pellets, in which case doing it from their own yard is no excuse at all, and there should be criminal prosecution as well as school suspension.

OMG, you are right. Look at how horrible our public schools have become. And we are now facing socialized, single payer medicine. The analogy between schools and medicine is chilling. Neither will end well if we, as a country, stay on this path.
During a hearing Tuesday morning, Aidan Clark and Khalid Caraballo were expelled in a unanimous vote. Clark was offered the option of attending an alternative school, but his father, Tim, told WAVY News' Andy Fox he will be homeschooled.

This toy is made to shoot a very small light weight plastic pellet and a very low velocity. You can do much more damage to someone or something with a child's slingshot.
If you go to the link and look at the picture of the kid holding this "toy", you can clearly see that the muzzle is orange. That is how Toys must be marked so law enforcement knows the difference when they respond to a stupid and ridiculous call like this one.
If my child had one of these on my property and the school or a neighbor publicly stated that he/she had a firearm I would sue the crap out of them. It is not a firearm under any nomenclature, law, or known definition.
Anyone claiming that this is a firearm is guilty of telling a bold faced outright lie. Stupid people?? No, these are left wingers with an anti gun agenda and they and the media who reported it as a firearm are just liars.
More evidence of the stupidity of the media - a pellet gun and an airsoft gun are very different beasts.
But lets get back to the story’s core - these kids were playing with an AIRSOFT gun, AT THEIR HOME - NOT AT SCHOOL... and got suspended (and may be expelled) from school? Might be the best thing to happen to those boys! That school obviously isn’t someplace I would want my children.
I know quite a few young folks who play paintball regularly - should they too be suspended/expelled from school?

Zero tolerance, sensitivity training, political correctness nonsense is literally straight out of a North Korean prison camp. It was scientifically developed and tested on American POWs during and after the Korean War.
