E.W. Jackson says non-Christians are engaged in ‘some sort of false religion’
The Washington Post ^ | 9/23/13 | Michael Laris

Posted on 09/23/2013 2:38:42 PM PDT by shego

At a morning sermon Sunday in Northern Virginia, Republican lieutenant governor candidate E.W. Jackson, a Chesapeake pastor, said people who don’t follow Jesus Christ “are engaged in some sort of false religion.”

Jackson offered that view while describing a list of the “controversial” things he believes, and that must be said, as a Christian....

It is not the first time Jackson has weighed in with controversial comments on questions of faith and social issues. He has also said that gay people’s “minds are perverted. They are frankly very sick people psychologically and mentally and emotionally.”...

Welcome to FR.

I've read the first fifty posts and didn't see a reply from you. No matter, you have probably replied by now.

Of course, but when it’s done by professing Christians with the approval of the church we all get to share in the blame.

No, do not accept blame for the acts of an apostate - or any sanctioning of an apostate church.

You want no knowledge of the foundation or formation of their core values? You want no sense of their dedication to those core values? You want the guy with his finger in the wind?

Sounds like RINOs are your guys.

::Sigh:: What a time to have a fit and jump down someone's throat. We're all being judged for water and Hosha`na' Rabba' is the "day of atonement" for non-Jews.

Yes, JB, I'm going to apologize to you--publicly--and to everyone else. But I'm not going to do it now because I want to mean it, and I'm way too upset to mean it right now.

If it's any help in understanding why I went on the warpath on this thread, a few weeks ago some nudnik wrote a letter to the editor of Jewish Press saying that Jews are free and secure is not because Americans are pro-Jewish but because in America we have "rights." Do you understand what that means? He went on to say that in order to remain free and secure in America Jews must defend the "rights of all"--ie, homosexuals. He implicitly tied the freedom to observe the Holy Torah to an evil enlightenment secularism and the "rights" of homosexuals. Only rednecks are the enemy. Everyone else (Jews, moslems, homosexuals, atheists) are comrades in this great struggle against evil incarnate in the trailer park.

My beliefs are very primitive. G-d exists and has made His will known to Israel and, through them, the human race. It is the duty of Jews to keep Torah and non-Jews to observe the Noachide Laws. The one and only answer to anti-Semitism is not secularism, liberalism, tolerance, multiculturalism, etc., but only converting non-Jews to the Noachide Laws and the transformation of the entire world into a Judaic Theocracy (the only true Theocracy that can exist).

Yehoshu`a Bin Nun didn't whine about the nasty intolerant Canaanites--he slaughtered them, at G-d's command. No Jew had any "right" to observe any other religion or worship any other "gxd." This is light years away from the accursed Jeffersonian/Painian "freedom of religion" that assumes that no actually true religion exists. What caused Jews to lose this original Theocratic worldview? Why did the Zionists re-establish Israel as a secular "western" democratic state? Is it too much to ask for the world to return to where it was 3300 years ago when G-d's voice was still ringing in Israel's ears? Why this love affair with Voltaire? And why are moslems getting more slack cut than chrstians when they still practice "convert or die" to this day?

There is one thing, however, that you should apologize for. You said that until 75 years ago (ie, 1938) Jews in America were subject to "convert or die." This is a blatant and obvious non-truth, whatever you meant by the statement. It would be a true qiddush HaShem if you apologized for this hurtful and false statement.

Hopefully I can apologize tomorrow truly with all my heart and not merely engage in rote behavior. See you when my blood pressure comes back down.

I expect candidates to know their audience which includes a hostile media. Now every Republican running for office in Virginia is going to have to respond to this statement day after day. Here is a probable scenario.

Media: Do you believe Judaism is a false religion?
Candidate: Of course not.
Media: So do you denounce what E.W. Jackson candidate said?

Now the candidate is put in a difficult position of supporting what was said after saying he didn’t believe the statement, or not supporting the candidate. I don’t think this is going to be a one-day story either. Remember the media is supporting his opponent.

What E.W. Jackson said may be good theology, but it’s lousy politics and at this time he’s a politician.

No - he was preaching at his church. A preacher should preach truth - even the hard truths.

You would be a poor political adviser. Asked the question, the politician should respond (assuming he is Christian) that his Christian faith teaches him that Christianity is true. That Judaism and Christianity, while in agreement on many things, hold opposite views on some tenets of faith. Both cannot be true. Then go on to say that the election is not about religion, but about policy and here is how the commonalities of our faiths inform good policy....

Your mistake is in either answering untruthfully (if you are a Christian) or being too quick to respond and open the door up for the obvious followup.

Ya’ll get too panicked about the smallest things. Any candidate that couldn’t handle that question gracefully, firmly and truthfully doesn’t deserve to be elected.

You are naïve if you think a polidiot is going to be honest about his values if it means not getting elected.

yeah, I know - exactly the kind we don’t want, with “convictions” so weak they’re easily hidden, and even easier forgotten.

We don’t have to accept the blame. People who are looking for an excuse to hate Christians will still use this.

That doesn’t resolve the issue; there are plenty of other religions (and lack of religion) held by people who are equal citizens.

While I am not going to disagree (or agree) with you about the Nazis’ religion, the Nazis did adopt the trappings of Christianity of all denominations.

There is an interesting site that is unfortunately from an atheist group, but details the Christian involvement and theology of the Nazis.

“Jewbacca, are you going to set some sort of “test” for political office that effectively bars anyone from running unless he/she subscribes to the notion . . “

I think my posts were too strong if you got this notion.

I am all for committed, evangelical, Christians being elected to public office.

My comment was much more limited: this particular speaker’s words were not helpful in recruiting Jewish people to come off the Democrat plantation.

It’s a cry for simple TACT, not censorship.

Yes, they were too strong. Add to that the fact that I never have a reaction to anything that isn't visceral and you get my meltdown last night.

If you're just now reading my posts from last night it's going to take you a while to get through them and you're going to be very, very angry with me. I'll give you a little time to digest all my screaming and calm down and then I will proceed with my public apology to you. As I said, I want to really meant it and not just type some rote plea for forgiveness.

Ok, your choice to not cut someone some slack for inarticulate wording...
We Virginians still have a choice between an inarticulate minister who stands for all things Conservative or a slick, smooth supporter of all things Obama....not a hard choice, to my mind.

I don’t know how Viriginia politics operate. Did Cucinelli pick Jackson to run for Lt. Gov. or is Jackson independently running for office?

“I want to see the detailed documentation”

The Catholic Church kept pretty good records of the Inquisition. Start there.

Look, I have no idea if the acts of Chrisitans were “slightly authorized” by the Christian scriptures. All I can go by is the acts of Christians, which have historically been pretty bleak (again, with noted exception of the USA) in regard to the Jewish people.

What’s the line, “Ye shall know them by their fruits?”

Well, the fruits have been pretty clear for 1900 years.

+++++

So, does this mean I think you are a bad person? No.

So, does this mean I think Christians are bad? Nope.

Do I believe that Christianity no longer seeks to persecute Jewish people, at least in the USA? Yes.

Does this 1900 years of persecution explain why so many Jewish people are skittish when they hear someone who is overly preachy in a Christian way? Yep.
