Poll: Republican voters have embraced libertarian values
United Liberty ^ | 9/12/13 | Jason Pye

The libertarian philosophy is taking the Republican Party by storm, according to a poll conducted by FreedomWorks, a DC-based grassroots service center with over 6 million members.

With Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY), Rep. Justin Amash (R-MI) and many other liberty-minded politicians gaining influence, libertarianism has generated new interest inside the Republican Party, much to the chagrin of the GOP's political establishment....

"FreedomWorks' poll shows that 42 percent of Republicans have a favorable view of the word ‘libertarian,' and only 10 percent don't know the word, compared to 27 percent who don't know nationally," they added.

And the term "libertarian" may still turn off some Republican voters, the basic message of the philosophy earns significant favor. The poll found that 68% of Republicans and Republican-leaning independents agree with the statement that "individuals should be free to do as they like as long as they don't hurt others, and that the government should keep out of people's day-to-day lives."

What's more, an eye-popping 78% of Republicans consider themselves to be "fiscally conservative, but socially moderate," which is a significant finding given the debate in the GOP on social issues.

Looking outside of just the Republican box, the poll found that 66% of respondents consider themselves to fiscally conservative and socially moderate.

These numbers show that the libertarian message is appealing, not only to Republican voters, but also to all Americans; further advancing the case for conservative-libertarian fusionism as a way to promote free market ideals, limited government, and personal liberty....

With libertopians we will not have to worry, once its legal all problems dissolve. Abolish age of consent and instantly no more worries about child drug use, or child sex, or child prostitution because its all good!

Open borders are going to be awesome, cross that line and you are an American and you can vote and sit on juries and sign up for all the stuff.

Libertarianism cannot work, society cannot function under that philosophy. And since they don’t and will never have a majority they will have to choose who to hook up with conservatives or leftists. They will more naturally choose the leftists.

When it does not function they will look for scapegoats: Christians and conservatives will be the natural ones. How dare you deny your kids their right to drugs and sex, you shall be punished. People like you are causing all the problems in Libertopia!

Don’t be surprised. They are ALREADY allied with the left.

States are legalizing pot (they want all drugs of course), we have non-citizens going to sit on juries to judge and punish Americans. They are pushing for gay marriage and the end of marriage (same thing, really), they want open borders and amnesty.

Libertarians have chosen social issues over economic ones.

They are not allies of conservatives, they are our enemies.

When you get it done, I bet it will be the best one ever. 14 years of intense labor into it already!

Do you think I’m a Libertarian?

But the govt made law permitting what you’re saying it normally wouldn’t permit.

That didn't make sense, and I never said that, I am fighting the politics of pushing government in that direction, on this thread, by opposing the libertarian position.

Why did you ignore my correction of your mistake?

The govt has to make decisions, laws and rules regarding homosexuality, for the military, for federal employment, for immigration, for many things.

Our form of government requires a moral people, nothing keeps the people moral like a pubic hanging every now and then. A public hanging is sure to fill the churches on the following Sunday.

>> Most libertarians period.

Don’t agree at all. The libertarians I know are quite conservative and damn serious about their liberty — God fearing 2nd Amendment folks that care deeply for their children, and the unborn. Salt of the Earth. You wouldn’t want to piss in their shoes.

Sorry for all the yelling.

Have I even called you a libertarian although you are fighting tooth and nail for libertarianism?

You keep on attacking me about a party that I don’t belong to and have basically no influence over.

The libertarians I know

It is amazing how people always bring up the people they know personally as the fact of something in the nation as a whole.

It’s the magnitude of the govt that facilitates the immorality you’re speaking to.

We disagree on the definitive meaning of libertarianism. But do we agree on the importance of significantly smaller govt?

For a guy who doesn’t want to discuss the libertarian party or defend them, you sure chewed up a lot of this thread with many argumentative posts doing just that.

Apparently not. I have said it here, I'd cut the federal government by 97% and liberdopians will still call me a statist.

Why do you keep ignoring my point?

“The govt has to make decisions, laws and rules regarding homosexuality, for the military, for federal employment, for immigration, for many things.”

It always has.

I was worried about you not being here. I’m sure the commie Democrats are glad to see your attempt at consensus building between people who support shrinking the government.

LOL, about libertarians and social liberalism? Yeah, many threads here at FR., personal experiences that you can read yourself, not just me saying 'all the (X) that I know, are a certain way, so there!'

That is a lame argument that we see occasionally on different topics.
