Signs of Mental Illness Seen in Navy Gunman for Decade
The New York Times ^ | September 17, 2013 | Various Staff

The former Navy reservist who killed 12 people in a shooting rampage at the Washington Navy Yard on Monday had exhibited signs of mental illness dating back more than a decade, including a recent episode in which he complained about hearing voices and of people sending “vibrations to his body” to prevent him from sleeping, law enforcement officials said Tuesday.

Only a month ago, the gunman, Aaron Alexis, 34, was suffering from hallucinations so severe that he called the Newport Police Department in Rhode Island where he told officers he was on business.

When officers came to his hotel room on Aug. 7 at 6 a.m., Mr. Alexis told them that he had gotten into an argument with someone at an airport in Virginia. He said the person he had argued with “had sent three people to follow him and to keep him awake by talking to him and sending vibrations to his body” via a microwave machine, according to a police report.

Mr. Alexis had moved to three different hotels in a single night to elude strange voices and people he believed were sending the microwave vibrations....

Then why was he allowed to enlist and serve four years in the Navy, hired as a contractor and get a Secret clearance?!

I don't think we want to go down this road, depriving people of rights and employment because somebody somewhere thinks they act weird.

You cannot predict the future, be it climate or human behavior. There are far too many variables.

Not to mention the signs of imbecility - along with mental illness - demonstrated by the Dork-in-Chief.

It’s interesting to note that the Obomadork wouldn’t pass a “Confidential” level security check, let alone a TS or higher one.

Another article said he complained about discrimination.

Yep, he’s of a certain demographic group,
so denying him ANYTHING is “raaayyysssisssssss”!

Which psychotropic drug was he prescribed? And why are Pfizer’s bought-and-paid-for Senators still blaming guns to protect the company’s profit margins?

Yes, I thought everyone in the military had a secret clearance. I know I did.

I’ll take what is a bogus ADHD diagnosis, with a VA supplied script of Adderal 2X20mg. daily and a 10mg. Klonopin chaser at bedtime to taper down the speed rush, I mean Adderal rush, Alex, for $500.

Because that’s how it is now.

If you think you hear voices and vibrations from others, you get moved to different rooms and get your secret clearance.

If you are a fella that thinks he is a girl, you get to go potty with the girls.

That’s civil rights nowadays...you dare not say that the Emperor has no clothes.

This is new school.

A black guy living in the slums of Fort Worth, working at a Thai restaurant and converting to Buddhism? Naw, that’s a Republican if I ever heard of one.

Back in my day, a confidential was hard to get, much less a secret. My first duty station I only needed a secret because of the intel. I worked with but as soon as I got to the 191st Combat Intelligence Company, 312th MI Bn. of the 1st Cavalry Division they put me in for top secret. Took about 8 months, IIRC.

Unfortunately, he is the GRANTOR of all clearances and not subject to anyone else’s approval.

Just being mentally ill doesn’t mean he couldn’t be the next democrat president.

These mass shootings are extremely rare

and the only reason these morons do it is because of the massive media attention they get. the media is causing most mass shootings and the media know this and egg it on so that they can take away our guns.

The media has said that if you are angry that’s what you should do and then you will become world famous and known forever. these idiots are just copy cats doing what they see on the media and the media knows this.

and since we pay attention to this crap then we are media puppets too.

we pay attention to mass shootings, trayvon, syria and other distractions when we should be focused on stopping the immigration Amnesty bill , the IRS scandal etc.

I just read this in the NYPost

For some reason, he had an ID belonging to Rollie Chance, a retired Chief Petty Officer with the Navy who was initially identified as the shooter before Alexis was confirmed as the suspect.

Chance’s sister, Tanya Denise Chance of Brooklyn, said Tuesday that she didn’t know if her brother knew the shooter.

“I haven’t spoken to my brother for a couple of weeks. I know about the shootings but I didn’t hear anything about my brother,” she told The Post. “I wonder how he got my brother’s ID, do you think he stole it?”

Chance refused comment when reached at his Stafford, Va., home.

I wonder why no comment on his missing badge?
