Assad's connection to Iran is the biggest reason why Israel's leaders have gone from neutral to anti-Assad.

Israel casts its lot with the Sunni extremists.

Obama has pushed Bibi to side with the Muslim Brotherhood.

Al Qaeda or Iran. Quite a choice.

This is gonna turn out about as well for Israel as its sponsorship of Hamas as a foil to the PLO.

Well, they have to nuke Damascus eventually.

I’m sure part of this calculation is the fact that Hezbollah is so reliant of Assad that they have been fighting alongside his troops in Syria for over a year now.

They are picking the wrong prophet. It isn’t like they don’t know better. :sigh:

I'll take stability over chaos, any day. Assad represents a stable Syria, just like Mubarak a stable Egypt and Ghadafi a stable Libya. That goes for Saddam as well, and a stable Iraq.

A cesspool of rogue terrorists (like Libya) can be just as dangerous as a nuke in the hands of a tyrant. When Muslims aren't CONTROLLED BY A HEAVY-HANDED DICTATOR, they resort to chaos and out-of-control barbarism!

It's sad that Bibi has joined 0bama is his War on Christianity. Putin is starting to look like the only good kid on the block.

And if al Qaeda-aligned rebels took power in Syria, they wouldn’t be allied with Iran?

Assad is sending his chemical weapons to Hezbollah:

Could be the reason behind this change in Israeli policy.

I don’t understand this. The regime that replaces Assad will be no more friendly to Israel.

The criticism here of Netanyahu for stating the obvious is a bit over the top. Our (America’s) main strategic interest in all of this is suppressing Sunni extremism. Israel’s got that particular situation on lock. The threat of the Hezbollah/Syria/Iran/Russia axis is much more compelling to them than hand-wringing over Al Qaeda. Hezbollah has thousands of missiles pointed at their major cities, supplied by Iran through Syria, Iran’s nuclear program is proceeding unabated, and the US has shown itself to be weak willed about WMD use and proliferation. They’d almost certainly be better off with a regime collapse and a partition of Syria.

Then let the Israelis topple Assad. On their dime. Using their army and air force.

Good, let Israel send their troops to fight alongside the “Syrian rebels” here then if they want this.

Publicly neutral. Covertly anti-Assad, I’m sure. The devil we know is worse than any other possibility. Oh, and he’s not stable or rational, or reliable, except that he’s reliably allied with Iran and Hizbollah, is rationally working on an end game, and that will upset the stability regardless. Better to upset his end game, so long as we’ll have instability regardless. This makes perfect sense. Instability on our own terms.

Assad has protected Christians up until this point. The rebels have shown their intent on destroying any vestige of Christianity in Syria and then they will move on to destroying all the Jews in Israel.

In this case the devil we know is clearly better than the devil we don’t.
