Here’s an important point on diplomacy. When something tense is going on in Israel, the Israeli PM often asks lower officials not to comment. As far as I know all parties usually comply as the media suddenly goes dark on that subject re. lower officials quoting. This makes controlling the message much easier.
It bothers me that McCain and others have responded to Putin. Even though I don’t like him and I think he’s totally incompetent, it is Obama’s job to make any response; not anybody else. And, unless Putin is trying to piss off America, he would be well advised to quietly ask lower officials to tweet about the weather and leave handling America to him.
