It may be busier than usual at grocery stores today.
On Monday, food stamp recipients will not be able to use their Electronic Benefits Transfer cards.
The Florida Department of Children and Families is contracting with new vendor e-Funds to provide EBT services.
The switch is expected to save the state $21 million over the next three years.
But in order to make the final switch, EBT cards wont work starting at midnight.
There is some misinformation out there about the switch.
Benefits for food stamp recipients will not change. Also, people will be able to use their EBT cards as soon as the transition is complete, which should be sometime Monday evening.
"I'm probably going to be frustrated and mad that I can't use it, but it's only for a few hours, until they update their system, I'll be OK, as long as it's only one day," said Cathy Astarita.
In the meantime, DCF is urging people to make their purchases Sunday to avoid frustrations Monday because this is a system-wide shutdown.
The horror! Meanwhile, disabled veterans, the Greatest Generation and the working poor starve and go homeless.

The rioting begins at 00.00.15.
Explains why my local WalMart was busy with a lot of non-whites/anglos early this AM.
And while your laughing riots left and right will be breaking out! I can see the police putting in quite a bit of OT.
Thank God for guns, huh, johnny?
Next trial -- how bad will it be if they disappear for two days?
Next trial -- 1 week. How many troops need to be called up?
“I’ll be OK, as long as it’s only one day,”
Imagine instead if also NO appliances worked. No ATM’s, no traffic signals, no telephone.
HOW not OK would she and her friends be?
Would their not ok-ness perhaps somehow effect you, too..?
Is it nationwide? Because my Wal-Mart was wall-to-wall earlier today. Took me twice as long as it should have. Their carts, of course, were loaded to the gunwales.
My wife works at a Wal Mart Super Store .....as a customer service rep....
I am going to suggest she call out tomorrow....
I wonder how many retail chain know this is happening....?
This could be bad.. wait I live in Texas... this could be ... instructional.... and popcornish
Funny...I just went shopping with my real cash and bought what I needed for the week...
I won’t need to be in a grocery type store for another week or longer...
Me too.
Cops avoid riots. Too dangerous.

EBT system crash? Heads up!
I don’t think it is nationwide, just Florida.
But...I did notice that either the store is understaffed and they are not restocking during the day...
Or they sold out of a lot of food stuffs over the weekend.
I thought it odd that a few items I needed were unavailable.
I was in Super Target this morning and it wasn’t that busy.
Crash the system permanently.
Don’t forget the kittens and the cute puppies that will have to be eaten because of the EBT shutdown!
Funny...I just went shopping with my real cash and bought what I needed for the week...
No kidding. So glad she's okay with our taxes taking a break from buying her groceries...and MORE, as long as it's only one day.
The irony would be if the system crashed, permanently. The reality is that it's likely a *reformed* system to detect ways to *assist* the takers with more all-new-and-efficient ways to take :(
