Mayor Bloomberg plans to back Joe Lhota for mayor if Bill de Blasio wins the Democratic nomination on Tuesday, sources have told The Post.
City Hall insiders said Hizzoner fearing the Democratic public advocate would dismantle his 12-year legacy if elected mayor has warmed up to the former MTA chairman and deputy to Rudy Giuliani.
The Republican Lhota said he would welcome the embrace of Bloomberg, an independent.
Mike Bloomberg and I had a discussion back in January. Hes staying out of the primary, Lhota said yesterday morning on Foxs Good Day New York.
I will talk to him next Tuesday night-Wednesday morning about the future and where we are going, he added...

No clue who this guy is. But. Cannot imagine hi being any worse than the Democrat field.
No clue who this guy is, but I cannot imagine him being any worse than the Democrat field.
Remember, spell check is your friend.
A political operative-turned-politician, de Blasio boasts ties to Hillary Rodham Clinton (he managed her 2000 Senate bid) and countless other New York Dems, including Gov. Andrew Cuomo (they worked together at the Housing and Urban Development Department). When are any of these rats going to be hit for being in at the start of the housing bubble?
FReepmail me if you want on or off my New York ping list.
That’s interesting. I don’t think anybody likes any of the leading Dem contenders, and while Bloomberg is a nutcase control freak who squandered a lot of his credibility on anti-obesity crusades and similar nonsense, he was good on one of the things New Yorkers like, law and order. And nothing can go ahead in NY without an orderly city that prevents the artificially nourished (meaning state supported) underclass neighborhoods from going out and preying on the rest of the city.
I don’t think Lhota is particularly strong but he would probably be more supportive of the police than any of the Dem candidates would be, since they are all vying to be the first in arresting police officers for carrying out normal police activities if the arrestee happens to be black. Very strange, because even black people supported stop and frisk (because it had made the neighborhoods safer for honest residents, which actually describes the majority of NY’s black population).
Surprised Doomberg isn’t backing a declared Socialist.
While watching a recording of the NYC Republican debate, I kinda cooled off of Catsimatidis, and warmed up to George McDonald. He founded the Doe Fund, and seemed to be the better candidate. He’s getting my vote tomorrow.
I thought the lesbian had the nomination all sewed up after the Weiner campaign imploded??
Lately, Quinn’s usually coming in third.
Thanks. Looks like Bloomberg WILL endorse Lhota. It’s so embarrassing that a magnificent city like New York can’t do better, that it’s deteriorated to the point where a Quinn or Weiner or DeBlasio is even a possibility. It’s a sorry lot the D’s have offered.
Stranger things have happened in NYC. I remember so clearly reading right before the ‘01 primary that FINALLY, at long last, perennial candidate Mark Green was going to win an election and become Mayor.
Thanks for the ping!
So under a de Blasio adminstraiton, NYC will support traditional marriage, limit abortions, stop giving free contraception to minors, respect gun owners rights, cease being a haven for illegals, stop spending money to fight "global warming", cut property taxes, throw the book at criminal gang bangers, reduce spending, and quitting banning stuff like cell phone usage, fatty foods, and 16 oz. soft drinks?
Unlikely, Bloomie. I'm pretty sure that you and your fellow leftist Democrat agree on 95% of the issues. But if de Blasio is such a douchebag even YOU won't support him, I welcome it.
Well Bloomberg is as popular as homeless people with messy pants that ride the bus all day so De Blasio is doing the smart thing and campaigning against the Bloomberg record (but from the LEFT!!! Imagine that! The guy is wacky!) so of course Bloomberg is opposing him.
Hmm this is an old thread I’ve been pinged to. I’ll reply anyhow.
I didn’t realize this thread was from Sept. 9 until after I pinged you. Has it really been that long since the primary election? Seems like yesterday.
Anyway, the article’s premise turned out to be wrong. Bloomberg has decided to stay neutral in the general election and not endorse anybody (and that’s fine with me, if I was Lhota I wouldn’t want the fascist left-wing outgoing mayor actively touting me, I doubt Bloomie’s approval ratings are very high):
Over 2 weeks ago. Time flies, I guess, I didn’t realize it had been long either.
No Bloomie endorsement of Llhota? Good, it definitely would not help.
De Nutcase has a huge lead in the polls, eesh. He’s genuinely frightening.
