A sixth-grader in Calvert County was suspended for forming his hand into a gun on his bus ride to school, an incident that adds to a string of recent high-profile cases involving punishments for children who gesture with imaginary weapons.
Carin Read, mother of the 11-year-old student at Mill Creek Middle School in Lusby, filed an appeal of the suspension late last week, after a principal denied her request to remove the alleged infraction from her sons school records.
The boy had already served a day-long in-school suspension, and Read argued that he should not have a permanent record over the matter. His disciplinary referral alleged that he pretended to shoot another student on the bus.
There was no threat, Read said, describing her son as an honor student who has never been in trouble at school. Hes been punished enough.
A Calvert schools spokeswoman, Gail Bennett, said she could not comment on the case because student discipline matters are protected by confidentiality laws. The Washington Post generally does not identify minors accused of disciplinary infractions.
The case is one in a growing number involving students suspended from school for pointing their fingers like guns, talking about guns and carrying toy guns. In Anne Arundel County, a 7-year-old boy was suspended after chewing his Pop-Tart-like breakfast pastry into the shape of a gun. In both Montgomery and Prince William counties, young boys were suspended for pretending to shoot with their fingers.

tucked a feather in his cap and called it... cherokee???
Okay I’m missing the whole spiritual thing with Cowboys and Indians and Army, it’s role playing, you know FUN and imagination? Spiritual is great that’s Church time and Mom and Dad time, when are we going to give these kids back childhood time?
My sister-in-law, who lives in Maryland, says there is a huge increase in home schooling this year.
OMG!!! Didn’t the kid realize there was a nail at the end of his finger??? What on earth was he thinking????
The **point** of this anti-gun zero tolerance is to raise up a nation of Peter Pans ( especially white Peter Pans) who are utterly incapable of defending themselves, their families, the nation, their freedom, and **especially** our Constitution. And...A nation of citizens who will go to the polls and gut the Second Amendment. All it takes is one to two generations.
That is the goal. That is the point.
By the way, am I the only one noticing that young men between the ages of 15 and 30 are acting more and more “swishy”?
God never said to leave Him in the church and visit Him one hour a week!
God said carry Him with you wherever you go.
Some did. Some didn’t. But more did back then, and that’s why it was a less-guilty age in many ways. It was cowboys vs Indians (regardless of the complexity of actual cowboys and actual Indians) and not let’s go gang bang a @#$%^&!!
Frankly... I believe in introducing cowboys and Indians to the gospel. Why did they never do cowboys and Indians and missionaries??? (Dull preaching might have had part to do with it. It was either hellfire/brimstone or a cotton candy heaven. Boy if that’s all there was to God, I wouldn’t be able to get away from God fast enough when I got the chance.)
We need a gutsy gospel. One as gutsy as the first century one that sold itself.
Guns are only things that can be used to the good or ill. They are lousy icons as anything else that can be used as an icon is lousy too.
The linchpin of freedom lies elsewhere. Get THAT in line and the gun and drug and “immorality” and murder and boredom and welfare and what-you-name-it... will all fall beautifully into place.
Call me a guy who is trying to get a gutsy gospel going. I hope (and in fact believe) I’m not the only one in this crowd! I couldn’t do it without God behind me and if God is moving with me then God is moving in general.
Looks like Biden’s eating his.
OK, now I just have a headache, that’s what happens when I fall into someone else’s reality. May the rest of your Sunday be golden.
School boards are elected...and folks need to vote out their school boards when they continue to make dumb policies, and hire morons to run their schools
This stuff does not happen when people vote in school board elections. School boards know they can do anything when no one is voting
Hey when the someone else is the good Lord then reality is worth the headache!
Don’t iconize the cowboys & indians. That wasn’t even the reasonable best of mankind let alone completed heaven. Personally I think cowboys are great. When they serve the Lord. (Same with Indians.) I have two cowboy belt buckles I like to wear, one of them showing a dual scene of a bull rider on a bull and the same cowboy before a cross with a bible. The other one I use on Sunday, showing a cowboy kneeling in worship at the cross with his faithful horse waiting behind him.
That's the unsurprising result of male children raised without fathers or significant male role models. The schools are taking advantage of a wounded culture by using policies that will prevent us from back-tracking to a system that worked.
I just posted this comment on the WaPo article, off the top of my head. I only posted because it was just reply 12 or so, which means that if it’s “liked” a few times, it will stay at the top and be read by thousands of libtards all night and tomorrow.
>>>Welcome to the USSA, comrades! Start them with the “thought crime” meme early, so they will have zero expectation of outdated values like “freedom” and “liberty.” Beat down their expectations while they are young, and they will make fine little comrades.<<<
The worst thing here is not even the mores, but the thing that is presuming to be the basis of the mores, some kind of nebulous “society.”
It used to be pretty robustly agreed that this basis was God in the Judeo-Christian view, and disagreements about what God wanted were usually about degree or circumstance rather than fundamental. All agreed the bible said this or that, the only thing up for discussion was exactly how it applied.
We sure are getting a lot of mileage out of that ill-advised photo-op.
And yet, a sweep of gutsy gospel (which being MORE powerful than Satan, not LESS, could easily co-opt media trends) would trump AND correct this... “If my mother and father forsake me, the Lord will take me up.”
If this makes you incredulous, remember the problem isn’t with God. The problem is with people. God has no grudge. People have grudges.
little wings, mind you, not big ones that take over the other perfect elements of the photo. So funny — you did it?
I don’t know. Don’t you think that’s too manly?
LMAO
