CRUZ: I think a military attack is a mistake.

CRUZ: For two reasons. One because I think the administration is proceeding with the wrong objective, an two, because they have no viable plan for success. They are beginning from the wrong objective because this attack is not based on defending U.S. national security.
It is not based on defending Americans or our allies, rather it is explicitly framed by President Obama, by Secretary Kerry, as a defense of what they call international norms. And I don't think that's the job of our military to be defending amorphous international norms.
But just because Assad is a murderous tyrant doesn't mean his opponents are any better. In June, the intelligence showed that the nine major al Qaeda -- of the nine major rebels forces in Syria, at least seven appear to have significant ties to al-Qaeda.
And the problem with this strike is one of two things is possible, either the strike is really significant, it weakens Assad and the result is the rebels are able to succeed, and if what happened there is al-Qaeda taking over, or al Nusra taking over, and extremist terrorists getting access to those chemical weapons, that hurts U.S. national security.

Cruz is more than right. Amorphous is a perfect descriptor for our boy president. The grown ups left the White House on January 21, 2009.

I think it’s still an open question as to whether Assad or his agents acting explicitly on his behalf actually ordered the gas attacks. But, no matter who lauched the gas attacks, the bottom line is that there is no imminent threat to US security, and armed US intervention would almost certainly make things worse. And if it is just about certain that US intervention would increase tensions and could lead to a wider war, why would we accept the US government’s narrative on the gas attacks in the first place.
The argument, that the US must enforce some sort of international norm by lobbing a few missiles on Syria, as exposed by Cruz, is delusional. The US government has some other deeper and I’m afraid more nefarious motive, which probably is the old strategy of starting a war when domestic events are not going well (0-care, scandals).
Stephanopolous does a real good job as an interviewer and a moderator. He's tough but fair.
The interview with the State Department department head in Libya during Benghazi is a classic. For me, it was one of those impressive times, like with John Dean during Watergate, someone comes forward and tells the truth and gives their interpretations without covering for anyone.
I didn't think it was Cruz's best moment as he didn't push back on the assumption that Assad did the chemical attack. It might have just been good debating technique to not go there. He did a good job explaining how attacking Syria would help terrorists. Cruz still looks good, but be has to be careful to not let ambition color his obvious skills to succeed. He can't hold back to fit in. JMHO

There is a massive difference. They did not hate this country.
Probably the Harvard lawyer's 140 vs the Dr's 115. Rand does possess intelligence, but Cruz is demonstrably a genius.
We have been under attack by Iran and Syria since the taking of the hostages in the seventies. If we could support a contingency that had the same morays as us I would be alright with it. Sadly thanks to the Kenyan that is no longer an option so I agree with you. We should however not be dissuaded from taking preventive strikes if we feel an attack is eminent!!!
Granted, but I still don’t equate them with the evil that is this administration.
I never said anything about Assad attacking us.
