Time to quit saying "boots on the ground" (call a spade a spade)
vanity | 09/08/2013 | me

It is time to quit using the expression "boots on the ground' I think it is a liberal expression designed to dehumanize our soldiers and to desensitize us to the human cost. Please use the term "putting the cream of our American youth in harm's way"

Correct the speaker whenever you hear the term

The same mentally ill agendas of Obozo Liar, Queeg McAinal, Kerry the Faux Vietnam hero, and congressional rats wanting to bomb Syria could apply to 9/11!

Exactly. It is a ridiculous statement and overused.

What it really means...

Having Americans die for a people who might not even appreciate it. Certainly they will be alive, and as some have said that it is the noble thing to do, but will they cheer the next time Americans die in a terrorist attack?

They answer is probably yes. Neither side likes the US and they might even hate us.

Considering the term has been in use since well before Kipling's poem 'Boots' was written over a century ago, I'm not expecting any changes.

What a difference words can make.

We should call Obama the "war pres__dent!"

It could be a military phrase. My old draft notice says, “Greeting, You are hereby ordered for induction...” phrased as somebody ordering a piece of meat for their evening meal.

It has been in use since Kiplings time, but was a military expression until recently. When a General says it, we know that he understands the cost. But when a politician or Talking Head on TV uses it, it does dehumanize our troops.

Concur. I have always hated the throw-away term, “boots on the ground.”

However, under the circumstances with Barack Hussein Obama trying to offer our troops in support of the Caliphate, we might have to revive the term, “Janissary.”

Only those who cannot win an argument try to control the terms used in the debate.

Putting boots on the ground is an issue but why you put boots on the ground is also an issue.

Are they there for a counter-terror mission or a counter-insurgency mission.

Are they there for a realistic and pragmatic reason or an idealistic reason

And what if you put some helicopters on the ground. Sure, there would be boots on the ground, but the boots wouldn't be fighting on the ground.

Or some intelligence gathering boots on the ground.

Or spy boots on the ground.

Yep. Heard the term countless times during my service, but it's one thing when a grizzled Sergeant major or your Brigade Commander uses it, and when some pencil-necked politician or gawky bureaucrat does.

Neither side likes the US and they might even hate us.

Assad belongs to Russia (they've invested many billions in their huge pipeline system there), and Putin is relishing making Obama look like the meaningless piker he truly is.
The rebels are backed by alQaeda and Iran, and both are more than happy to take Obama's gifts, then spit on America, and use the weapons against Americans whenever the opportunity presents itself.

We have no reason to be there, no side to support, and certainly no side to give us any appreciation, benefits, or global respect.

Sorry, but I will not say a phrase that mentions the “cream of American youth.” Get ready for people to laugh in your face. Why not say “some of our best people”?

...putting the cream of our American youth in harm's way...

I doubt Jimmy Carter could have said it any better.

Knowing U. S. boots are on the ground in a conflict is dehumanizing? Really?

Coulda fooled me. I've always taken pride from that, when our guys are involved.

Whether the effort is justified or not, when our guys are there, the effort takes on a whole new meaning for me. We are on foreign soil.

In Iraq we had guys signing up again and again. Some folks will pass that off as the government forcing them to. I've seen video interviews where the guys express their belief that they were doing something noble, and they wanted to complete what they started. For them, 'boots on the ground' meant something.

It does to me too. I do not see it to be dismissive or dehumanizing in the slightest.

The Bat Lady:" What a difference words can make. "

Call it what it is ..

OBOMBERS EGO WAR "

He is making all our Armed Forces into Hessians = troops for hire
This is a Civil War internally in Syria
We have no National security interest there in an internal civil war which has already been going on for over two years .

Yup, when a democrat is in the White House they count 1 boot per soldier but when a republican is in the White House they count both feet to make it look worse.

How about call them “the best and bravest of our youth?” This way you tweak the Ivy educated liberals who like to call themselves the best and brightest while reminding people these are kids who will be harm’s way.
