The Obama administration secretly won permission from a surveillance court in 2011 to reverse restrictions on the National Security Agencys use of intercepted phone calls and e-mails, permitting the agency to search deliberately for Americans communications in its massive databases, according to interviews with government officials and recently declassified material.
In addition, the court extended the length of time that the NSA is allowed to retain intercepted U.S. communications from five years to six years and more under special circumstances, according to the documents, which include a recently released 2011 opinion by U.S. District Judge John D. Bates, then chief judge of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court.

"But of course, those who wrote the Patriot Act are Republicans" Passed by Republicans maybe, but the text of that Act had been sitting on the shelves for some time waiting for an appropriate crisis. It was written by the permanent bureaucracy, and vetted by both Clinton and Bush appointees in turn. It's just another clue as to the unity of thought of the national Republicans and Democrats.

That is why it is important to require a warrant before searching for Americans data, Udall said. Our founders laid out a roadmap where Americans privacy rights are protected before their communications are seized or searched not after the fact, he said in a statement to The Post.why only 2 dems cared about this ?

Wag the dog. Syria is a cover up for Benghazi. And Snowden is a cover up for what Obama did with the NSA and IRS to steal the 2012 election.Right you are.

In addition, the court extended the length of time that the NSA is allowed to retain intercepted U.S. communications from five years to six years . . . which would carry it from that point through the 2016 election.

Yes. My iMac finally ate its hard drive.
I’m reduced to trying to run on a windoze laptop. I’ve lost everything since July 10th, not a disaster, but quite annoying.
Trying to get caught up, recover ping lists, update this that and the other software so I can do thing like, oh, I dunno, actually see a video...

Yet he’d still get re-elected today with just a little bit of fraud in four states. Most of his followers simply will not admit they were wrong. The rest don’t think they ARE wrong.

What had not been previously acknowledged is that the court in 2008 imposed an explicit ban -- at the governments request -- on those kinds of searches, that officials in 2011 got the court to lift the bar and that the search authority has been used. 2008... 2008... who's that guy who was in charge in 2008, again...?
