The effects of climate change often happen on a large scale, like drought or a rise in sea level. In the hills outside Missoula, Mont., wildlife biologists are looking at a change to something very small: the snowshoe hare.
Hares switch color in the spring and fall in response to light, when the days get longer or shorter. But that means they're at the mercy of the weather. If the snow comes late, you get a white hare on brown ground.
Scott Mills of North Carolina State University leads the research. He says they're finding that mismatched hares die at higher rates. That's a concern for the threatened Canada lynx, which mainly eats these hares.
"It's a picture that paints a thousand words," Mills says. "It's a very clear connection to a single climate change stressor."

How is it possible for Glogal Warming to “cause” anything?—since there isn’t any Global Warming.
These climateers are really groveling for some actual “fact” that the earth is warming. First, it was the polar bears, then the “rising seas” and melting of the glaciers...all of that has fallen flat, so it’s on to the snow bunnies.
Maybe, it’s been so abnormally “cool” the triggers that cause the white coat have just got an early start...who knows. Either way, it’s hardly evidence of anything. But the NPR children are busy playing “radio” and need something to attract and hold their parents attention, so they’ll go with snow bunnies.
What next? Global warming causes Big Bird to shed his feathers, or Kermit to turn purple. They will pick any anomalies to try and make their useless point.
The person who conducted the study and the person who wrote about it are harebrained.
It’s a well known fact among Democrats that Global Warming can cause Planetary Cooling, but you just have to be a Democrat to understand the concept.
Canadian Lynxes in Montana? This means war! Canada must immediately recall their lynxes or we’ll start attacking with American gophers!
If the rabbits around Missoula are changing color, it’s more likely that it’s due to all the Grecian Formula and Clairol hair coloring being washed into their water supply from the professors at the University of Montana.

Shouldn’t the government be supplying the bunnies with temporary fake-fur coats of the appropriate color?
At least, until their coats change to match their surroundings?

Answer, they both survive on the same government grants, with the grants just couched in different terms according to the social strata each is in. They both exist on the redistribution of wealth extracted by force from others.......and too many become parasites, expecting more and more.
The scientists think they're so educated, sophisticated and better than anyone else as they cash in on their government largesse just same as the welfare class cashes in on theirs.
One thing we know, too many scientists and pseudo-scientists infesting taxpayer-supported universities and government laboratories are leeches and leftists who have way too much time on their hands allowing them to repeatedly pursue wild-hare projects that signify nothing of value.

Rabbits, hare, field mice, quail, etc can explode or collapse. Followed by the bobcats and coyotes. There is/was a lot of dryland cotton farming in that area so those creatures called yellow cotton bales can explode and collapse with the rainfall also.
When the hawks migrate in from a cool wet summer up north to a drought year in texas a large population of hawks will collapse quickly.
For many years I recreated on Weyerhauser timberlands in Ark. When they stopped grazing those lands it was amazing how fast the rabbit and quail population exploded.
Here in MT when the rabbits collapse there are always a ton of pheasant. Anywhere with water and fields of wheat they are everywhere so the coyotes, foxes, hawks & cats just change their menu. That’s why we harvest all but the hawks. They really decimate the hens.
