Three Russian warships crossed Turkey's Bosphorus Strait Thursday en route to the eastern Mediterranean, near the Syrian coast, amid concern in the region over potential US-led strikes in response to the Damascus regime's alleged use of chemical weapons.
The SSV-201 intelligence ship Priazovye, accompanied by the two landing ships Minsk and Novocherkassk passed through the Bosphorus known as the Istanbul strait that separates Asia from Europe, an AFP photographer reported.

Russia says Syrian Foreign Minister to visit Moscow on Monday
MOSCOW - Syrian Foreign Minister Walid al-Moualem will travel to Moscow for talks with his Russian counterpart Sergei Lavrov on Monday, the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement on Thursday.
The ministry said talks will focus on “the current situation in Syria”, where the United States is mulling a military strike after Washington said it had evidence that President Bashar al-Assad used chemical arms against civilians.

14:40 GMT: Russia is not blocking the work of the UN Security Council, but calls for all its partners for objective assessment of the situation around Syria, Russian President Vladimir Putins spokesman Dmitry Peskov said at the G20 briefing.
Russia attempts to call on its partners, including the partners in Washington, for objective assessment of the situation, for not taking the decisions before the official verdict of the UN experts working in Syria, he said.
Getting ugly now.
Thanks Obama.
The die is cast
The Russians have supplied lots of missiles and war weapons to Syria and would love to supply Iran with functional rockets with guidance for Iranian nuclear weapons if given the chance.
They are interested in breaking our economy chasing these fires around the world as they pose.
So we fire twenty cruise missiles. The odds now? I’d say that barely six get through the Russian defense umbrella.
Then what? US aircraft? You’d have to be an idiot to send in two carriers and hope that the Russians don’t react.
Cold war re-created? Heck, at this rate....Jeb Bush could win the Presidency in 2016, and the Noble Peace Prize dimwits are forced to award him the prize because he ended Cold War II.
And somewhere in the middle of this....the Snowden dimwit. He’s probably even got all of the WWE-wrestling staged event plans for 2013 and 2014.
Those are probably the only ships that could leave port.
Russia supposedly supplied advanced AA missiles to Iraq before the 2003 invasion. That didn’t go well. The Russians can’t afford to lose credibility when it comes to weaponry. They have taken too many hits over time.
The Slava class in the region carries their best long-range AA missile. I doubt they will use it to help the Syrians.

16:24 MSK: “Russia-US relations need another ‘reset’” Dmitry Peskov, Putin’s spokesman, said.
Just a thought. Is Obama trying to set himself up to be the great peace-maker?
They are not losing weaponry, they are seeing themselves lose opportunity.
Something about the report looks a bit screwy. The online sources that I have found show Russia as having disposed of all the ships of the Kiev class, including the Minsk. If true, then someone got confused in their ship spotting. Or, has Russia named another ship after the city of Minsk? The Novocherkassk looks like a very interesting ship, having bow doors as well as a well deck. The Priazovye [ http://www.shipspotting.com/modules/myalbum/photo-35924-PRIAZOVYE+(SSV-201) ] looks like it has a full range of antennae and the size to keep it on station for an extended length of time.
Here’s an earlier report:
http://rt.com/news/russian-destroyer-mediterranean-report-424/
A large anti-submarine ship named Admiral Panteleyev reportedly arrived in the east Mediterranean Sea to join the Russian standing naval force as flagship. It comes shortly before the scheduled rotation of two Russian landing craft carriers in the area.
The Russian Navy destroyer left the Far-Eastern port city of Vladivostok on March 19 and arrived in the designated area of the eastern Mediterranean on Wednesday, according to sources cited by Interfax and RIA Novosti.
Meanwhile, the Russian Defense Ministry said that large landing craft carriers Novocherkassk and Minsk of Russias Black and Baltic Sea Fleets have been dispatched to the area, and will join the permanent Mediterranean naval force on September 5-6 in accordance with the earlier planned schedule.
A General Staff source told Itar-Tass that reconnaissance ship Priazovye also headed to the area to aid in monitoring the situation in the region.
A senior Russian Navy Main Staff source also told Interfax that guided missile cruiser Moskva will be the next vessel arriving in the Mediterranean to replace Admiral Panteleyev as flagship.
The Black Sea Fleet has two new Sierra 2 Fast Attack subs and two Yasen Class Missile Subs. These are serious war machines.
We get no respect with that poser in the white house.
We may not survive his presidency.
I am wondering if this posturing and posing by Putin is a smoke screen.
Are Russian ships proceeding to the Eastern Med. fo ‘help’ the U.S.A. with communications?
Thanks, Obama, you moron!

If we do survive, he'll go down in history as the worst president ever.
Lots of opposing and moving parts gathering in a relatively small area. What could go wrong? /sarc
