The New York Times seems to have a special interest in Ted Cruz in particular, his relation to Canada. As I noted in a February column, the Times referred to him as a Canadian-born lawyer. True, but such a curious thing to slip in, given that Ted is about as American as Texan as they come.
Teds mother, a native of Delaware, and Teds father, a refugee from Cuba, lived in Calgary for a while. Their son was born there. They moved to Houston when he was four (as I understand it). I borrow an old saying: Ted got to Texas as quick as he could.
In a June piece, I said he was as American as apple pie, as Texan as a steak.
Anyway, the Times recently had an article dealing with Ted and Canadianness. They said, Canada is not particularly beloved by American conservatives. The blessed magazine with the blue border, National Review, memorably ran a cover in 2007 depicting a group of Mounties with the headline Wimps! The article inside complained about the countrys whiny and weak anti-Americanism.
Well. First, that cover ran in 2002. Say what you will about the biases of the Times, the paper has usually been thought accurate. People used to say, The Times is where you go to settle a bet. But second, theres a more recent NR cover the Times might have cited.
Just last March, we ran a cover that trumpeted The True North! We hailed the best-governed country in North America and its exceptional leader Stephen Harper, the Conservative prime minister. To read the piece inside, go here.
The Times is not wrong, necessarily, in its depiction of American conservatives and their view of Canada. But the paper may be a little out of date.

Well bless their heart. The OLD gray "lady" is never interested in the good of the Republic.
If the NYT is "concerned", I'm all in for the .... as American as apple pie and as Texan as a steak Senator Ted Cruz. For whatever office he chooses to seek.
The New York Times RELISHES the impostor who is not
even a US citizen, which is why this NONSENSE is brought up.
When Barry was four he moved to Indonesia...
The New York Times is a against any Conservative, but Cruz has them scared.
They totally back a man who is so secretive that he recently hid the log of visitors to the White House as though it were some top secret document.
In reality it was causing him embarrassment, especially the part where the IRS man had been at the White House to get his orders to use the IRS to punish Conservatives.
If this country has any chance of survival we need to get this POS out of the White House. Impeachment should be tomorrow.
The NYT confirms what the liberals are afraid of. Ted Cruz is making them very nervous. Good!
Ted Cruz Ping!
Who is the guy from Kenya, Indonesia, Russia, Pakistan in the People’s White House? Tell me that first nyt!!!!!!
The real shame is that so many of our newly naturalized citizens have more regard for America’s Constitution and its history than a whole lot of citizens whose heritage goes way back.
The LEFT is scared to death of Cruz—he’s a game changer and they know it.
” Senator Ted Cruz. For whatever office he chooses to seek.”
Let me fix that for you.....
Senator Ted Cruz. For whatever office he is eligible for. Which doesn’t include president or vice president.
Silly rabbit, the presidency is for natural born Citizens.
Born IN THE COUNTRY by TWO citizen parents. He fails on two counts.
So far as the question as to what compromise to citizenship being born in a foreign nation should have on the authenticity of “natural-born” would be, this has been heard before, time and again. Consanguinity trumps geography every time. True citizenship is conferred by the allegiance the adult person has come to swear to, by the exclusion of all others.
It is the old conundrum, just because a mother cat may have had kittens in a cold oven, that still doesn’t make them biscuits.
And this extends even further, to the so-called “anchor babies” of parents who are illegal residents of the country, who happen to be born on US soil. They are kittens born in an oven who then claim to be biscuits.

RUN, TED, RUN!! May 6, 2013: "Sen. Ted Cruz found unlikely praise Sunday from a leading liberal firebrand and political commentator. James Carville, the Ragin Cajun himself, called Cruz a fearless leader of a new conservative movement. I think hes the most talented and fearless Republican politician Ive seen in the last 30 years, James Carville said on ABCs This Week in Politics. I further think that hes going to run for president and hes going to create something. |
Not to worry.
The stalwart and competent attorney DR. ORLY TAITZ, ESQ. will file her briefs to have him reinstated.
Expect action by this afternoon.

Baloney.
Again, Ted Cruz’s father did not come here as a refugee. He came here in 1957 - before the Castro takeover - as an immigrant.
