The latest estimate of the number killed is 7,000 higher than that issued by the UN only last month.
Mr Ban was speaking at UN headquarters in New York alongside US Secretary of State John Kerry.
Both men stressed the urgency of finding a political solution to the conflict. Mr Ban appealed for fresh efforts to convene a peace conference.
In the past the UN has said its statistics are an underestimate as it believes many deaths have not been reported.
A further 1.7 million Syrians have been forced to seek shelter in neighbouring countries.
The UN announcement came as reports from the capital, Damascus, said that seven people had been killed in a car bomb attack.

By the way, of the 100,000+, what portion were al Qaeda and how many were in the Syrian Army? I’d bet when you total all those up, it’s a huge number - therefore, aren’t things going well at some level even from our point of view?

The genocide in Darfur has claimed 400,000 lives and displaced over 2,500,000 people AND no one cared or tried to stop it . Muslims killing Christians and animist and no one cares .

All these Catholics being displaced in Syria and why are no Catholic countries trying to help them get out of there .

Obama just likes a good distraction. Timing is everything, and the Syrian thing just kind of came up, so it became a big deal.
Yep, we haven’t heard much about IRS, Fast and Furious, Benghazi, AHCA, economy, unemployment, taxes, etc, etc, etc since MLKfest and Muzzie gasing, have we? We have a compliant press and a compliant Mr and Mrs McQueeg to thank for that....
