Springfield Armory has issued a voluntary safety recall of their popular XD-s in both 9mm and .45 ACP. This recall was issued on August 28, 2013, to resolve two rare but potentially dangerous situations; the gun firing when loading a cartridge, or double-firing when the trigger is pulled once. Brief overview of the steps necessary for returning the gun to Springfield, including notification of the affected serial numbers.
The XD-s .45 ACP that I purchased in early 2013 is on the list. Although I have not had any problems with the handgun, I'm going to follow the steps in the recall protocol and return for the repair "upgrade".
Serial numbers in the recall:
9mm: XS900000 through XS938700
.45 ACP: XS500000 through XS686300

Normally I would post misc. gun stuff in "General" but I decided to post this in "News" so it would be seen by as many people as possible.
Be safe!

Yeah, less than 10 days ago some people who had Springfields were snickering at Shield owners. Time for a little crow now.

I just don’t like any striker fired semi autos. My wife has one, but all of mine use a hammer.

Thanks for reminding me about the 28. Now I'll have to dig it out of the safe and get it to the range.

Instant double tap.And instant loss of control of your weapon. Firing when chambering a round could have really bad effects on the hand operating the slide....

It’s refreshing to see a gun maker fess-up to a problem especially after Remington failed to acknowledge a safety issue with their 870s that killed people. I never bought anything Remington made after that debacle.

It was the 700 that killed people, the 870s had failure to eject issues. Google it.
