The first rule for President Obama: Its all about 2014. The second rule for President Obama: See Rule No. 1.
Make no mistake: The president couldnt care less about the plight of Syrians, the 1,500 gassed to death including nearly 500 children. Its all about 2014. Win the House, reign supreme.
Consider this: Mr. Obama made his dramatic Rose Garden statement Saturday then headed to the golf course. Congress has no plans to cut short its 30-day vacation, and the president did not call lawmakers back. So much for urgency.
The conventional wisdom is, as usual, wrong. Losing the congressional vote wont be an embarrassment for the president, as all the talking heads are still parroting. A loss would be a double win. First, because a No vote would allow the foreign policy neophyte to walk away from his blundering red line declaration on chemical weapons (I wanted to go in, but Congress said no). And second, should Republicans who voted for the Iraq and Afghanistan wars now oppose Syria, the president would be armed with clear evidence that their opposition is purely political.
Keep in mind: This president knows no way to campaign other than to blame others. Hell batter Republicans for all of 2014 as obstructionists should they be the reason the effort fails.

bottom line: we are in a kakistocracy.
Armed with a single MA-2 .50 caliber Browning, this much feared naval vessel carries up to 30 rounds of aluminum piercing ammunition. It is the first in an entirely new naval architecture class -- technically, clitoral (not to be confused with littoral) -- being pushed on the Pentagon by the defense minded wussies in the Obama Administration as a cost-saving measure. If you look closely, you can see the heavy-duty seat restraint which prevents the pilot/gunner Kamakazi Kowalski from leaping from the vessel prior to engaging the enemy. The 12 V trolling motor which lacks a reverse function -- propels this sophisticated craft forward at a top speed of 4 knots. Reverse travel at approximately 35 knots -- is achieved by firing the Browning.
The no-bid contract to build 200 of these fearsome warships was to have been awarded to Obama-Soros-Emanuel Shipbuilding and Stormdoor Manufacturing (formerly General Dynamics) and will be administered by trusted Obama associate and former Chief-of-Staff Rahm Emanuel who commented that, at $12 million each, they are a bargain. They will be constructed exclusively at the companys facility in Kenya with major subcomponent production (rivets and miscellaneous fasteners) at the companys Harlem and Skokie plants. Delivery is expected to begin in 2024 (or as soon as the subcontractors funds are safely in the contractor's Swiss account).
perfect. thanks
>”Congress has no plans to cut short its 30-day vacation, and the president did not call lawmakers back. So much for urgency.”<
this had whizzed right by me .
Given barrys reliance on dramatic grandiose jibber jabber..I have to assume that he expected congresses “absence”...to be missed by most.
Ubama will make a serious miscalculation if he believes otherwise.
The president couldnt care less about the plight of Syrians, the 1,500 gassed to death including nearly 500 children. Its all about 2014. Win the House, reign supreme.
Obama is caving to pressure from Russia and China, and in consultation with his Chief of Staff, made the political calculation that he would blame his cowardice and inaction on the Republican Congress.
It doesn’t matter whether he should or should not act against Syria, the motivations I describe above are the only calculus Obama considered.
Finally, someone gets it right! This is ALL about 2014 politics, been saying it all weekend...
Shameful, but absolutely correct.
If we lose 2014, we also lose those responsible; McConnell and Boehner.
In the case of Iraq and Afghanistan, we didn't unilaterally rush in. Bush made his case and objectives to everyone form the start.
Yes it is a kakistocracy.
This is a different take. 2014? I don’t think the electorate would remember this that long if it goes away. And given current polls, the vast majority are not at all interested in a war for ego. Instead, I wonder if we’re being played for suckers in another way?
Lemme explain. As we all know the rat operating philosophy is to never let a crisis go to waste. The timing of this is certainly suspicious. Its not like this is the first or last time the Syrians have used this stuff. Probably not the first or last time this year. So why the sudden urgency? Why now? And then why was it suddenly OK for this to wait till Congress reconvenes?
Is the underlying issue be the upcoming fight over boehnercare? I found it very interesting how the gop wing of the uniparty went into hiding over the Syria issue. Then they came out very quickly with their response after the Saturday I-love-me fest. Gosh. It was almost like it was all ready to go. You dont think it could have been, well, coordinated do you? Is it cover for boehner and friends to simply ignore the boehnercare defunding because, well gosh golly gee, we all had to talk about Syria?
More questions than answers Im afraid....
As much as anything else, this puts the lie to all that rhetoric about atrocities and holding people accountable.
If anything, I expect unilateral action by Obama at some point in order to flood the airwaves and hide some breaking bad news. A "wag the Syria" campaign to cover bad economic, Benghazi, NSA, IRS, or FastandFurious news.
I was thinking along the same lines..
Shades of Clinton and Bosnia to duck the Monica mess.
Of course there’s no urgency now. Now he has “given” the decision to Congress or essentially he is transferring the blame to Congress for whatever happens.
No matter what the fallout with Syria and in the region, he will blame Congress whether they agree to back his proposals or not. If things go great (right), he will take full credit.
The rest of the world, however, isn’t buying what he’s selling.
“And second, should Republicans who voted for the Iraq and Afghanistan wars now oppose Syria, the president would be armed with clear evidence that their opposition is purely political.”
I think this could backfire on Obama. Iraq was post 911, Saddam was flaunting the UN, etc. The mood was much different, there was much more support for military action. Voters will understand a no-vote on this mess in Syria.
France is buying it and Obama is buying it. Both, for whatever reason, see a need to assist the rise of al Qaeda in the middle east.
I suspect France, now a large percentage Moslem, is cowering. Charles Martel would be so proud of them.
