Well known for his portrayal of Lt. Dan in Forrest Gump, actor and musician Gary Sinise was named an honorary U.S. Marine during a ceremony in Washington, D.C., on Friday, according to a statement released by the U.S. Marine Corps website.
This was one of the most extraordinary nights, Sinise said in the statement. I was totally surprised by what the general gave me tonight. Im humbled, shocked, moved and motivated to keep standing up for our men and women and giving back to them.
Gen. James F. Amos, the Marine Corps commandant, hosted the ceremony at his home at the Marine Barracks.

You're right, discernment is our friend.
That's why you should know by now that liberals are the bad guys.
The time for the same-old same-old fence-sitting kumbaya crap is over.
The country is being economically destroyed, martial law is all but imposed, and healthcare has turned into tax-to-deathcare.
Put down the tamborine, and wake the hell up.
I'm really proud for Gary Sinise. He did most of what he's done for the military, out of the public eye.
I would rather the African communist bastard have no part in this at all.
Great guy.
As others have noted, he’s a great guy. He also does many, many personal and private actions for families of the fallen.
I am very glad that he has had this recognition bestowed upon him, not because some politician thought it would make good headlines and bring in votes as near as I can determine, but because he truly is a man who deserves to be honored and recognized for his continuing selflessness and dedication.
Semper Fi “Marine Sinise!” Well deserved!

Real good guy, supports the troops and raises money for disabled vets.
Can say enough good things about him.
Happy Labor Day my friend!
Don’t burn any wieners tomorrow!!
Good. I’m glad to see this. Why is the general in civvies?
He sure is easy to watch in almost any role.
As soon as I saw the thread name, I knew it would be Sinisi. He definitley deserved it. Very happy to hear this.
In early August 2013, the Lt Dan Band hosted a benefit concert in Cedar Falls, IA for a local hero, Taylor Morris, who lost all four limbs in May 2012 to a land mine in Afghanistan. The purpose was to raise money to build Taylor a smart home. The concert raised over $500k. Gary is a true patriot and deserves our respect and prayers and he put on one heck of a concert.
God Bless You Gary!!!!1
Congratulations! Lt. Dan would have made a fine Marine.
Gary Sinise is a fine actor and a great American.
In the final five years of his film career (19251930), Chaney worked exclusively under contract to MGM, giving some of his most memorable performances. His portrayal of a tough-as-nails marine drill instructor in Tell It to the Marines (1926), one of his favorite films, earned him the affection of the US Marine Corps, who made him their first honorary member from the motion picture industry.
I can’t think of anyone more deserving of this than Gary. This man truly loves the men and women in our military.
Thanks for the info, guys. I don’t keep up with Hollywood too much. Kudos to Gary!!!
There is a whole generation of young men & women who never served in Vietnam because they were too young, nor did they serve in Gulf War I and II because they were already over the hill.
This same generation (born 1954-1974) grew up in a post-Vietnam anti-war, anti-government and anti-Patriotism environment. In the last two decades (and due to 9/11) we've seen these same young people (aging Baby Boomers)in Hollywood act out a role they missed, for example, Tom Hanks (Saving Private Ryan, Forrest Gump, Band of Brothers and Pacific) and many others his age.
In reality they missed serving their country, hey missed out giving something to the nation but via the silver screen they can “contribute” something even belatedly.
Good for them. Not all Hollywood trashes our country and those who serve or served...
Great guy
It’s the conservative/libertarian blend. May not agree 100% but agree 90% of the time.
