Greta was in for O'Reilly tonight. One of her guests was John Bolton. Greta asked Bolton if Obama had the authority to strike Syria without Congressional approval. Bolton didn't hesitate for a second. He said Obama absolutely has that authority.
I supported going into Iraq....and knowing everything I know now about Saddam’s ties to terror...I still do.
A sign of maturity is learning from mistakes. Notwithstanding the countless deaths that stupid invasion caused, it gave us Barack Obama (and China got the oil).
I think I will wait for the transcripts to be posted tomorrow before I pass personal judgment. I will also look forward to how the MSM responds.
In other words, I think I will wait a day or so to see what he said and what he meant and the logic behind his words.
Obama wants the MB in charge of the ME. The French reporter on Hannity who just was just released from captivity said the “rebels” are now the Sharia Law crowd. All those generals mouthing off on TV saying “the extremists are only in the north” should talk to this guy.
Military force has been used by a President something like 125 times without authorization by Congress.
Today in an earlier interview, Bolton found this entire Syrian scenario to be “fascinating.” He said ( sarcasm) he was thrilled to finally see Obama finally understanding the War Powers Act, especially after the stance and attacks against Bush. He indicated he was very interested to see how Obama plays this. (Paraphrasing). The interview I heard was dripping with contempt for Obama.
The Constitution gives Congress the power to “declare war.”
Since when do those words mean that the President has NO authority to deploy the military without a Congressional “declaration of war.”
In the 18th century, only aggressive wars were declared. Aggressive war is now illegal under international law. Thus, the constant whining from some people that undeclared wars are “unconstitutional” is pointless.
Re Greta and Bolton....did you hear her comment re Jon F’n Kerry (who, BTW, served in Viet Nam) she stated that he looked sooooo presidential...specially when compared to the 11 year old who spoke soon after. Agreed, he did exude that aroma, but it was only bottled and confederate at best. Please no more of this clown!!
Didn’t Bolton also recently come out in favor of the NSA’s right to spying on American citizens by reading their emails and listening to their private phone conversations?
That's the whole point! The law requires that you "declare war".
Firing missiles at sovereign nation is an act of war. You must get Congressional approval first, as the the Constitution requires. Or you must show that the target nation is an imminent threat to the US, as the War Powers Act requires.
Bolton is absolutely right. Of course that won’t matter to the Constitutional scholars here.
Then please let me know what your opinion is on that particular question-answer.
I, too, supported going into Iraq. But immediately after the invasion, the MSM and Democratic Party (that’s redundant) screamed we were in a ‘quagmire’. I knew this was not going to end well then.
(BTW, I was here - http://www.fas.org/news/iraq/1998/02/20/98022006_tpo.html)
“The United States does not challenge Iraq’s territorial integrity,
nor do we want to see the Iraqi people suffer any further,” Albright
said. “Our problem and the world’s problem is with Iraq’s leaders. And
today those leaders have a choice. They can allow U.N. inspections to
proceed on the world’s terms, or they can invite serious military
strikes on ours.”
Bolton is absolutely right.
In a monarchy or Imperial Rome, yes.
At least John Bolton is consistent.
LOL! Like you really give a crap about my opinion/thoughts.
What I stated was what I was going to do before passing judgment about his appearance on Greta, nothing more, nothing less.
The rest of the universe can knee jerk, I will wait.
Bolton is Quite bright. He has been right so often that a stupid statement like this is beyond belief. I’m flabbergasted.
And that (’Bolton is a POS’) matters why, and to whom? What about Miley Cyrus? Let’s start another deep thought vanity, huh? Or better yet, turn off your IDIOT box!
Correct.
Even though we may wish there was not such Presidential Authority for “this” WhiteyHut, Bolton was probably looking at the bigger longer view picture when a sensible conservative may be holding the reins and actually have a good reason/cause for a one time shot.
