The White House released a four-page assessment Friday laying out the evidence the government used to conclude that Syria launched a chemical weapons attack last week, as President Obama continues to lay the groundwork for retaliatory strikes.
We assess with high confidence that the Syrian government carried out the chemical weapons attack against opposition elements in the Damascus suburbs on August 21, the report, labeles the U.S. Government Assessment of the Syrian Governments Use of Chemical Weapons on August 21, 2013.
The assessment said the attack, on 12 locations in the Damascus area, killed at least 1,429 people, including at least 426 children a specific death rate that is higher than many of the initial reports had suggested.
In the assessment, U.S. officials said they detected rocket launches from territory controlled by troops loyal to President Bashar al-Assad, and a review of video of the attack suggests that the wounds were consistent with chemical weapons use.
Syrian regime officials have denied using chemical weapons, and have speculated that in fact the rebels might have used them instead.
But the U.S. assessment said it is the regime that has the type of weapons believed to have been used.

They have no physical samples and they do not have any admissions by the regime that they used chem weapons. Intercepts show the opposite.
So what ya gonna do about it, pusscake Kerry?
Sure, there were lots of people killed —probaby by gas supplied by obama and his buddies.
This must be Boehners fault somehow...Being sarcastic, some FR idiots out today could not help taking potshots at hapless Boehner today
After Obama lost his British skirt to hide behind, I figured the WH would be playing the Shut Up game. Assad’s 11 year-old kid even called the President a wuss.
If someone did use chemical weapons and we don’t do anything, we just took them off the “Do Not Use” list.
John Fraud Kerry becomes more reminiscent of Genghis Khan by the day.
The rebels captured Al-Safira in April. Al-Safira was one of Syria's largest chemical weapons facilities.
I wonder what LIES he’ll be telling this time!
No Sale
Send out the Clown
He's not saying the rebels weren't capable of the attack. He's saying that they're not capable of making up all the evidence of the attack they've seen, so that proves the government did it???
No, but Obama has taken us into 24 African nations and deployed forces to Yeman, Syria, Libya and Egypt and killed 3 times as many US troops in Afganistan than died under Bush.
He has a proxy war in Somalia and drone war in Pakistan that has killed thousands of civilians.
He opened a military base in Chile and he still maintains a presence in Iraq.
Not off topic,...I'll bet Wesley Clark will have a sigh of relief when 0bama bombs Syria. Why? Because 0bama will be the one to get us in a shooting war with Ivan, not Wesley.
5.56mm
This number was provided by the Jihadist rebels. Kerry used it as fact.
It’s a DIVERSION from all the domestic scandals besetting this gang of criminals.
Hey, all you stupid low and no information voters. Don’t look there. Look at this shiny thing over HERE!
Kerry: “The question is whether we we collectively what are we and the world going to do about it?”
Every creep in the Hussein administration wants America to sacrifice itself for “the world.”
Screw them and screw “the world.”
Hussein intends to use the US Navy assets in support of our sworn enemies.
Boehner needs to step up to the plate and put a stop to that.
