Rand Paul on Syria: I can’t see sending my son to fight on the same side as al Qaeda
Washington Examiner ^ | August 30, 2013 | Charlie Spiering

Paul also explained that he had difficulty seeing any American interests in the Syrian conflict.

“I can’t see fighting to impose Sharia law in Syria,” Paul said. “I can’t see sending my son to fight with Islamic rebels against Christians. I also can’t see my son going to fight on the same side as al Qaeda.”

Under Sharia law, Paul noted, Christians would be persecuted for blasphemy, citing a woman in Pakistan who was jailed for blasphemy after she drank from a cup shared by Muslim workers.

“That is not something I want to send our boys and girls to die for,” Paul added.

Why isn’t the house coming into emergency session to discuss?

Has the President asked them to?

I have several friends (in three different families) who have young sons either enlisted or planning to enlist in the military.

Why?

But, but, but...the other day Juan McCain said it was not the Muslim Brotherhood that we were arming...

Then later he said it was terrible that no arms were reaching the intended recipients, meaning some general in charge of some military unit that was supposed to be ok for us to support.

I read these together and I am confused. We send stuff, but it doesn’t get where we want it, and where we want it is not MB. So where is it ending up?

Please explain, Juan...You were quite emotional during that interview, I think with Greta.

You have summed it up well. You only forgot that there are a lot of Republicans [even a majority] who also want to be on the side of al Queda. This is an equal opportunity FU. There must be a lot of political contributions coming from the friends of al.

Hey McCain, let's arm both sides so they can kill each other and we stay the hell out.

I can’t see sending my son to fight on the same side as al Qaeda

The corollary to that is the sublime stupidness of sending my son to fight, effectively, against Israel. Simply Stunning that we've come to this point.

Can he see sending his son to fight on the same side as Assad?

Are those our only two choices?

Why do they enlist? I wish I knew. They just say they don’t care about politics. I try to be tactful, telling them that politics doesn’t care about them either. Except as cannon fodder.

This doesn’t sink in.

Their parents are all conservatives. They know the political leadership is evil. Yet they don’t arrive at the logical conclusions.

Has Waldo Boehner held a press conference and demanded a vote?

Where in the world is Waldo Boehner?

“McAinal is mentally ill and has evidently been compromised by the files the NSA, FBI and Navy must have on him.

His recent behavior ties in with his back stabbing of Sarah Palin during and after the 2008 election.

Hopefully, if Obozo Liar goes down due to his lies and messes, he will take McAinal with him.

He’s protecting your freedom. As your dad did.

“My country right or wrong” may not be righteous, and the entire quote, which I notice you truncate, indicates that. But I don’t like the idea of fighting in Syria any more than you probably do. We have not been attacked: intervention is therefore illegal. However, the military is subject to the civilian authority, which is how our system works. Take it up with Baraq, not the soldiers.

I respect your opinion, that was never an issue. But your assertion that somehow our soldiers must bow to the whim of homosexual opinion isn’t based in fact in my own experience and I notice you do not defend that statement in your reply.

We’ve got some good people defending this country. That’s not my opinion, that’s fact. If you can’t back those people, that’s your business and I respect that too.

Imagine your son was at the zoo. He looked into the lion's cage and saw a small body laying on the ground inside. He instinctively climbed over the fence to come to the aid of what he thought was the child in danger. Only, it turns out it was simply a doll thrown over the fence by the zoo keepers for the purpose of feeding the lions a meal of hero.

Your son would still be brave and would still be a hero. Your son would still be doing the right thing. The problem is that there are also evil men in this world that would use your son's good instincts and virtues for their own evil purposes.

It is not wrong to point that fact out. It is the only way to get better zoo keepers.

I agree. Intervention in Syria is wrong and illegal as presently constructed.

I resent the implication though, as would anyone serving honorably, that such service to the nation is tainted due to a commander in chief that he did not choose.

We do need better zookeepers. No question about it. I work to help elect them.

I think it’s time for isolationism. Why? Because the ME policies of the last 35 years have not worked. To HELL with them.
